Brown blijft voorstander van komst Andretti

Het is algemeen bekend dat het team van Andretti staat te trappelen om de Formule 1 te betreden. De Amerikaanse formatie heeft al geruime tijd interesse, maar de huidige teams zijn niet bepaald fan van het plan. McLaren CEO Zak Brown denkt er anders over en staat nog steeds open voor Andretti.

Michael Andretti is de aanjager van de Formule 1-plannen van het gelijknamige team. In eerste instantie probeerde men Sauber over te nemen, maar dat mislukte. Andretti wil nu de koningsklasse van de autosport betreden met een eigen team, maar daar is niet iedereen fan van. Autosportfederatie FIA opende echter een proces voor mogelijke nieuwe teams en Andretti meldde zich aan doormiddel een gezamenlijk bid met Cadillac.

Niet veel huidige Formule 1-teams zijn fan van de plannen van Andretti en Cadillac. Vanzelfsprekend heeft het te maken met een financiële kwestie, het prijzengeld wordt immers verdeeld over alle renstallen en een extra team zou voor minder geld zorgen. In gesprek met Fox Sports laat McLaren CEO weten dat hij iets anders denkt over deze zaak: "Ik zou het leuk vinden als er meer teams bijkomen, maar wel met de juiste voorwaarden. We weten allemaal dat ik fan ben van Michael en Cadillac. Ik denk dat ze gezond genoeg zijn voor deze sport."
