Audi geeft ambitieuze update over Formule 1-project

Vorig jaar werd bekend dat Audi de Formule 1 in 2026 gaat betreden. De Duitse autobouwer gaat vanaf dat jaar samenwerken met Sauber en de voorbereidingen zijn in volle gang. Audi heeft hard gewerkt en geeft aan dat ze nu echt goed zijn begonnen met het Formule 1-project.

In 2026 gaan er nieuwe motorreglementen gelden in de koningsklasse van de autosport en Audi toonde al zeer vroeg interesse in deze regels. Voorafgaand de Belgische Grand Prix kondigde men vorig jaar dan ook hun Formule 1-plannen aan. Enkele maanden later werd duidelijk dat ze gaan samenwerken met Sauber en inmiddels is men hard bezig met de ontwikkeling van het team en het motorenproject.

Basis

Op de motorshow in Shanghai toonde Audi vandaag wederom de conceptlivery aan de buitenwereld. Audi gaf op de Chinese autoshow meer details over het project. Audi-kopstuk Oliver Hoffmann sprak zich tijdens de autoshow uit over de Formule 1-werkzaamheden: "In de afgelopen maanden is het Formule 1-project van Audi echt van de grond gekomen. In deze conceptfase wordt vandaag de basis gelegd voor onze drivetrain voor 2026. We geven veel aandacht aan de details, zoals bijvoorbeeld het materiaal van onze technologieën."

Testbank

Audi is daarnaast ook druk bezig met het aanleggen van de juiste faciliteiten in Neuburg. In een persbericht laat het merk weten dat ze ondertussen al meer dan 260 specialisten hebben aangetrokken voor het Formule 1-project. Het aantrekken van de juiste mensen moet voor het einde van dit jaar zijn afgerond. Daarnaast wil men voor het einde van het jaar ook al het eerste concept van de krachtbron laten draaien op de testbank.

Las ik een tijdje terug niet dat ze sowieso een Duitser in de auto wilde hebben, wat dan neerkomt op Mick Schumacher. Ik bedoel... als je ambities hebt moet je sowieso niet Mick in die auto zetten natuurlijk. Lijkt me nu wel duidelijk dat Mick gewogen is, en te licht bevonden (zeker nu je ziet wat Hülkenberg klaar kan spelen tegenover Magnussen).

  Als ze per se een Duitse rijder willen, dan moeten ze nu al Oliver Goethe een contract aanbieden. Doet het niet verkeerd in de F3. Na dit jaar 2 jaar in de F2 zetten en dan in een F1 auto naast een bewezen talent/rijder. Combi Sainz/Goethe lijkt me wel een mooie.
