Clubje oud-F1-coureurs, onder wie Kvyat, stapt in voor Formule E-test

De twee ePrix's op het stratencircuit rondom het Tempelhof-vliegveld in Berlijn moeten nog worden verreden, maar menig elektrisch raceliefhebber kijkt reeds reikhalzend uit naar de maandag ná het tweeluik. Dan staat namelijk een collectieve testsessie voor onervaren coureurs op het programma - wat heet, rijders die nog geen ervaring hebben met het racen in een Formule E-bolide.

Die testsessie biedt mogelijkheden voor een flink aantal coureurs dat een nieuw carrièrepad voor ogen heeft. Onder hen ook voormalig Formule 1-coureur en drievoudig podiumklant Daniil Kvyat, die recentelijk dankzij Prema Racing in het World Endurance Championship weer meters op de mondiale circuits heeft kunnen maken. De volgende week 29-jarige Rus, die vanwege de internationale sancties in de paddock statenloos door het leven gaat, stapt in bij het team NIO.

Kvyat treft een aantal voormalige collega's uit de Formule 1 op de Formule E-paddock in Berlijn. Zo zullen ook Will Stevens (DS Penske), Roberto Merhi (Mahindra) en Jack Aitken (Envision) aan het stuur van een elektrische Gen3-bolide draaien. Met Robert Shwartzman en de reeds eerder bevestigde Felipe Drugovich hebben respectievelijk DS Penske en Maserati een jong, gewild talent de mogelijkheid geboden om een dag lang in de Formule E-wagen te rijden. Formule 2-coureur Zane Maloney mag zichzelf tevens een van de blikvangers noemen. De Boy from Barbados bestuurt één van Andretti's bolides.

Kennelijk is een coureur-niveau bij zulke racerijen niet zo hoog als gemiddelde/prima(maar niet top-) coureurs uit F1 daar alles winnen. Aan de andere kant als een jonge hond deze namen met gemak verslaat dan weten we gelijk ook dat die zsm naar F1 moet overstappen.
