Liberty verwacht veel van Las Vegas: "Zal veel interesse zijn vanuit sponsors"

Dit jaar staan er drie Amerikaanse Grands Prix op de Formule 1-kalender. Naast de races in Miami en Austin keert ook de Grand Prix van Las Vegas terug op de kalender. De verwachtingen van deze race zijn zeer hoog. Liberty Media gaat ervanuit dat het een economisch succes gaat worden en verwacht meer interesse vanuit sponsors.

Vorige jaar werd de comeback van de Grand Prix van Las Vegas vol bombarie aangekondigd door de hoge heren van de sport. Tijdens de vorige edities van de race werd er nog gereden op een parkeerterrein, maar nu is alles anders. De heren coureurs zullen gaan rijden op een circuit dat dwars door het centrum van de gokstad gaat. Zelfs de wereldberoemde Strip is onderdeel van de lay-out van de baan.

De werkzaamheden aan het pitcomplex en de paddock zijn momenteel in volle gang en men telt de dagen af tot de race. Ook Formule 1-eigenaar Liberty Media heeft hoge verwachtingen. Liberty Media CEO Greg Maffei legt zijn verwachtingen uit aan Racer: "We denken dat Vegas ook een goede kans was voor onze economische wensen, het is daarnaast ook een geweldige showcase. Een nachtrace op The Strip wordt sowieso iconisch. Er zal ook veel meer interesse zijn vanuit de sponsoren."

    Zal een typische Amerikaanse show spektakel worden, nog meer dan Miami vorig jaar.. Ik vind het allemaal best, zolang de andere meer klassieke races er maar niet onder lijden (de drang naar meer show).. Voor wat betreft de baan, het lijkt me een echte Red Bull baan dit seizoen, met al die extreem lange rechte stukken.. Misschien een mooi moment om het eens helemaal zonder DRS te proberen.. Of in ieder geval veel kortere stukken..
