Krack maakt zich zorgen over Azerbeidzjaanse sprint: "Ik ben nerveus"

Aankomend weekend wordt in Azerbeidzjan de eerste sprint van het huidige Formule 1-seizoen afgewerkt. De keuze voor Azerbeidzjan zorgt voor de nodige vraagtekens aangezien het stratencircuit in Bakoe bekend staat om de vele crashes. Aston Martin-teambaas Mike Krack maakt zich ook zorgen over de aanstaande sprint.

Op het stratencircuit van Bakoe zullen de heren coureurs het druk krijgen. Naar alle waarschijnlijkheid wordt er gewerkt met een nieuw sprintformat met twee kwalificaties, een sprint en de gewone race. In de voorgaande jaren waren de races op het Azerbeidzjaanse stratencircuit zeer chaotisch. Veel wedstrijden werden gekenmerkt door crashes en andere bizarre momenten.

Nerveus

Veel kopstukken van de sport maken zich zorgen over de sprint in Azerbeidzjan. Ook Aston Martin-teambaas Mike Krack vraagt zich af of de keuze voor een sprint in Bakoe wel een goed idee is. Krack spreekt zich uit bij Speedcafe: "Ik ben een beetje nerveus over die sprint in Bakoe. Je hebt daar namelijk niet genoeg tijd om grote schade te repareren. Direct na de sprint moet je afstand nemen van de auto's en dan heb je in de ochtend drie of vier uur de tijd om de auto te fixen. Dat brengt dus de nodige risico's met zich mee."

Dezelfde omstandigheden

Krack realiseert zich ook dat alle teams tegen dezelfde problemen aanlopen. De teambaas plaatst dan ook een nuance bij zijn eigen verhaal. Krack is ook hier redelijk duidelijk over: "Zoals ik al zei, iedereen kampt met dezelfde omstandigheden en in Bakoe kan je best goed inhalen. Als je hier risico neemt in de lastigere delen van de baan, dan is er altijd een groter risico op schade. Ik denk echter wel dat het een mooie show gaat worden."

Het voelt bijna wat onwerkelijk aan dat er komende week weer eens geracet gaat worden, je zou afgelopen weken bijna vergeten dat we midden in het F1 seizoen zitten.

Fia lijkt wel de tweede kamer hier. Maken ook van die lompe beslissingen. Baku is een slecht circuit voor het houden van een sprintrace. Kans op schade is hier erg groot. Zeker omdat je maar 1 VT hebt waardoor het afstellen van de auto een grote uitdaging is.

Uit protest zouden Max en zijn medestanders de kwalificatie voor de vermaledijde sprintrace als een vt2 moeten rijden en de vermaledijde sprintrace zelf als een vt3, dat zou de FIA en de parasiet van de F1 leren...
