Wat viel op tijdens de vrijdag in Azerbeidzjan?

Vandaag werd het Azerbeidzjaanse Grand Prix-weekend afgetrapt. In de straten van hoofdstad Bakoe kwamen de heren coureurs in actie tijdens de eerste vrije training en de kwalificatie. Het was de aftrap van een druk sprintweekend en dat zorgde voor veel opvallende momenten. GPToday.net zet een aantal opvallende momenten op een rij.

Alpine

Het team van Alpine arriveerde met veel zelfvertrouwen in Bakoe. De Franse renstal introduceert dit weekend een nieuw updatepakket en wil de aanval openen op de topteams. Op de vrijdag werd de aanval echter alleen geopend op het budget. De Alpine-monteurs draaiden overuren, want er ging veel stuk bij vooral de wagen van Pierre Gasly. De wagen van Gasly veranderde in VT1 in een soort fakkel. Alpine nam geen enkel risico en besloot de wagen van Esteban Ocon ook te onderzoeken. Gasly bezorgde het team nog meer kopzorgen door zijn wagen in Q1 in de muur te parkeren.

Ferrari

Ferrari was de grote verrassing van de vrijdag. Na drie Grands Prix vol tegenslagen viel alles in de Azerbeidzjaanse namiddag de goede kant op. Charles Leclerc en Carlos Sainz zagen er vrijwel de hele dag sterk uit en in de kwalificatie volgde het hoogtepunt. Leclerc was 0,188 seconden sneller dan Max Verstappen en greep de pole position. De Monegask gaf gelijk aan dat de Red Bulls een betere racepace hebben, maar uit de data blijkt dat Ferrari in de racesimulaties slechts 0,14 seconden moet toegeven op Red Bull. Met een klein beetje geluk kan dat voor veel spanning gaan zorgen in de sprint en de race.

McLaren

Een andere verrassing in Azerbeidzjan was het team van McLaren. In de eerste drie races van het seizoen viel de Britse renstal enorm tegen, maar in Bakoe zijn de eerste voortekenen zeer gunstig. McLaren-coureurs Lando Norris en Oscar Piastri bereikten allebei het derde kwalificatiedeel en oogden zeer competitief. In het spannende middenveld zijn de verschillen klein en kan McLaren in dit sprintweekend een flinke lading WK-punten binnen halen.

Geen makkelijk copy-vertaal-paste werk, maar een mooie feitelijke opsomming die als goede bron dient voor ons als fans om lekker een discussie over te gaan voeren.

Bij deze;
IK hoop dat die vermoede 0,14 seconden achterstand in racepace genoeg zal zijn om VER minimaal tot het laatst rondje achter zich te houden..
