Hamilton over aankomend upgradepakket bij Imola: "Ik tel de dagen af"

In haar missie om het team van Red Bull in te halen, introduceert Mercedes bij de Grand Prix van Emilia-Romagna een groot upgradepakket. Met deze veranderingen hoopt de Duitse renstal op het gebied van snelheid een flinke voorwaartse sprong te maken. De race in Italië zal een grote test voor het team zijn; coureur Lewis Hamilton kan haast niet wachten tot het moment is gekomen.

Bij de nieuwste generatie F1-auto's was het duidelijk dat het Formule 1-team van Mercedes wat betreft aeroconcept de plank flink mis had geslagen. Aan het einde van vorig seizoen leek het team echter stappen in de juiste richting te zetten, maar viel de performance sinds de start van het 2023-seizoen toch weer tegen. Niet alleen wist Red Bull nog steeds alleen bovenaan te staan, ook hebben Mercedes en Ferrari nu een nieuwe concurrent in het gevecht om de resterende podiumposities, namelijk Aston Martin.

Na de Bahrein Grand Prix was het voor Mercedes duidelijk dat het een nieuwe richting in moest gaan. Achter de schermen is het team van baas Toto Wolff druk bezig om de eerste grote upgrades binnenkort te introduceren, namelijk bij de Grand Prix van Emilia-Romagna, die op circuit Imola verreden wordt.

Zevenvoudig wereldkampioen en coureur voor het Duitse team Lewis Hamilton zegt zeer uit te kijken naar het moment waarop hij en teamgenoot George Russell de nieuwe upgrades mogen uitproberen: "We hebben een aantal kleine stapjes gezet richting de positie waar we willen staan. Daar moeten we het voor nu mee doen, totdat we de grote upgrades krijgen – die ons hopelijk een stap naar voren brengen."

"Al vanaf het begin (van de nieuwe ontwikkelingsrichting) wisten we dat we een aantal races moesten volhouden totdat we deze upgrades kregen, dus ik ben de dagen en weken aan het aftellen. We weten niet precies hoe goed het pakket zal zijn, maar het is het begin van iets nieuws voor ons", sluit Hamilton af.

Zou wat zijn als ze een schot in de roos hebben en war spanning in het wk of races komt.
En volgend jaar de 8e binnen sleept, ondanks hij al 8 gewonnen heeft in normale gang van zaken.
