Hamilton vergelijkt Miami met Saoedi-Arabië

Lewis Hamilton rijdt dit weekend in Miami weer met zijn regenbooghelm. De Britse Mercedes-coureur reed in het verleden vaker met dit design in landen waar de homorechten zeer slecht zijn. Hamilton geeft aan dat hij in Miami met deze helm gaat rijden als protest tegen een aantal strenge regels in Florida.

Hamilton heeft zich in de afgelopen jaren ontpopt tot een coureur met een activistische kant. De zevenvoudig wereldkampioen sprak meermaals zijn steun uit voor de Black Lives Matter-beweging en hij support ook de LHBTIQ-community. Hamilton reed in het Midden-Oosten regelmatig met een regenbooghelm omdat de rechten voor deze groep in bijvoorbeeld Saoedi-Arabië zeer slecht zijn.

Saoedi-Arabië

In de staat Florida is er de laatste tijd veel te doen omtrent strenge wetten tegen bijvoorbeeld educatie over transgenders. Hamilton is het hier niet mee eens en wordt geciteerd door La Presse: "Ik support de community hier. Ik hoop dat ze hier gewoon door blijven vechten. Ik zal dit weekend met de regenboog op mijn helm gaan rijden. Voor mij is het geen verschil van toen we in Saoedi-Arabië waren."

Boycot

Hamilton wil niet meewerken aan een mogelijke boycot van de Grand Prix van Miami. De Britse Mercedes-coureur is van mening dat hij hier niet over moet beslissen: "Ik heb gelezen welke keuzes er hier zijn gemaakt en daar ben ik het niet mee eens en ik support dat ook niet. De mensen in Miami hebben deze beslissingen niet gemaakt, die knopen zijn doorgehakt door de mensen van de overheid."

het was pas een hele grote geweest als hij niet in deze landen/steden zou rijden, dan zou het pas een held zijn. en eigenlijk had hij daar dan alle/of veel rijders in mee moeten nemen. en ook teams. het is nu een beetje een soort tam hippieprotest.
