Liberty Media wil snel beginnen met Concorde Agreement-gesprekken

Formule 1-eigenaar Liberty Media is momenteel hard bezig met de toekomst van de sport. De Amerikanen willen doorpakken en daarbij kijken ze ook naar het Concorde Agreement. Liberty Media CEO Greg Maffei zou deze overeenkomsten namelijk zo snel mogelijk willen verlengen.

De huidige overeenkomst loopt nog tot en met 2025. Deze deals werden nog gesloten onder leiding van voormalig Formule 1 CEO Chase Carey. Stefano Domenicali mag binnenkort beginnen met de onderhandelingen over een nieuw Concorde Agreement, het wordt de eerste keer dat de Italiaan vanuit zijn huidige rol de gesprekken mag gaan leiden. Als het aan Liberty ligt, begint hij hier heel erg snel mee.

2025

Liberty Media CEO Greg Maffei wil namelijk niet tot en met 2025 wachten met de gesprekken. Als het aan de Amerikaan ligt wordt er heel snel met elkaar gesproken. Tegenover analisten van Wall Street sprak hij zich uit: "We hebben nog een aantal jaar over bij ons huidige Concorde Agreement. Ik denk dat de teams, de FIA en wij het er wel eens zijn dat het misschien wel een goed idee is om de zaakjes zo snel mogelijk aan te pakken om de overeenkomst te vernieuwen en verlengen."

Verleden

Maffei benadrukt dat een snelle overeenkomst geen verplichting is. De CEO van Liberty Media wil wel een herhaling van de vorige gesprekken voorkomen: "Zoals jullie wel weten ging het de vorige keer door tot het bittere eind. Historisch gezien hebben de teams eigenlijk altijd zonder Concorde Agreement gewerkt. Ze schudden elkaars hand op het moment dat de deal afliep. Het is ons doel om die dynamiek te veranderen. Chase en Stefano hebben de dynamiek met de teams veranderd. Ik hoop op een positievere relatie en ik hoop dat iedereen begrijpt dat het nodig is om al vroeg met elkaar te praten."

Hier hebben we m eindelijk. De reden van alle politieke gehannes omtrent nieuwe teams en het totale prijzenpot of eventuele entreefee...

Vanaf de zomerstop zou dit wel het onderwerp #1 worden tot aan 2025 en het tekenenen van alle teams + eventueel de twee nieuwkomers
