Miami staat open voor organiseren nachtrace

Afgelopen weekend werd de tweede editie van de Grand Prix van Miami verreden. De organisatie had er alles aangedaan om er een grote show van te maken en voor de toekomst overweegt men nog een extra showelement toe te voegen. In Miami denkt men namelijk na over het organiseren van een nachtrace.

De tweede editie van de Grand Prix van Miami was naast de baan een groot spektakel. De organisatie had een groot aantal beroemdheden binnengehaald en er werd een opvallende show georganiseerd op de grid. De coureurs werden voorgesteld door rapper LL Cool J en het publiek werd op allerlei manier vermaakt. De Grand Prix zelf was niet bepaald spectaculair, maar er werden wel veel duels uitgevochten.

In de toekomst wil men mogelijk een extra showelement toevoegen aan de Grand Prix. Een nachtrace is dan iets waar men aan denkt. Tom Garfinkel van de organisatie van de Grand Prix wordt geciteerd door ESPN: "We hebben er een aantal gesprekken over gevoerd. We hebben erover gesproken om het te doen. Het is ook de tijd van het jaar waar het weer nogal onvoorspelbaar is. Dit jaar is het weer best aardig, maar vorig jaar was het enorm warm. Er spelen ook een aantal dingen over de Formule 1 en de televisie. We staan er echter zeker voor open."

      de GP van Las Vegas wordt in de nacht van zaterdag op zondag gereden (start 22:00) locale tijd. Bij ons is het dan 07:00 uur zondag ochtend. Zoiets zouden ze dan ook met Miami kunnen doen, maar door het geringere tijdverschil zou je het daar dan echt in de nacht moeten doen.

    "De Grand Prix zelf was niet bepaald spectaculair, maar er werden wel veel duels uitgevochten." Als DTS-fan heb je natuurlijk niet door dat het echte duel van de race op afstand (van 16-20 seconden ) plaatsvindt. Tja dan realiseer je je niet dat er op dat moment een masterclass wordt gegeven.

    Als het een avondrace wordt in Miami, ga ik die race voortaan dus missen en vele Europeanen met mij, vrees ik.
    Dan wordt het hier immers nachtwerk en de meesten moeten op maandagochtend weer werken.
    Jammer, maar helaas. Ik zie de FIA/FOM daar overigens nog niet in mee gaan, omdat ze veel reclame-inkomsten van de Europese kijkers gaan missen.

      Precies @Patrace. Je gaat toch niet 's nachts om 3 à 4 uur een race kijken?!
      Mag hopen dat ze dit niet gaan doen, want dan haken miljoenen kijkers in Europa af en waarvoor? Voor nog geen twee miljoen USA kijkers, die op zondag kunnen kijken. En in bv. Azië is het dan al maandag waar iedereen aan het werk is.
      Heel slecht idee!!

      @pietje: zoals je terecht zegt: ze gaan die miljoenen kijkers in Europa en de inkomsten die daarbij komen, niet zomaar willen mislopen. Dat doen ze pas als er in de VS zoveel meer kijkers zijn dat dat het verlies van de Europese kijkers compenseert. En daar is vooralsnog geen sprake van.

      Dus voorlopig hou ik het op een leuk proefballonetje.

      Op het moment van de race hebben ze hun geld al binnen, die worden door de stations meestal aan het begin van het seizoen al betaald voor een paar jaar.
      De FIA/FOM is tot alles in staat samen met Liberty Media.

    p.s. Om belaging en hindering van uitgenodigde VIPS tegen te gaan zullen vanaf heden alle F1 gerelateerde aanwezigen (zoals coureurs, teambazen, monteurs en media) gedurende het gehele raceweekend de toegang tot de paddock en grid worden ontzegt. ~ Nogmaals Stefano Domenicali.

    Het is een avond race, geen nacht race.
    Ergo, een race in de avond in die klimatologisch broeierige omstandigheden maakt regen zeer aannemelijk.
