China zet belangrijke stap voor comeback op F1-kalender

Het Shanghai International Circuit was van 2004 tot en met 2019 de gastheer van de Chinese Grand Prix. Het was de bedoeling dat de race ook in de jaren daarna op de kalender zou staan, maar de coronapandemie gooide roet in het eten. De organisatie van de Grand Prix komt nu met goed nieuws.

De Chinese Grand Prix werd in 2020, 2021 en 2022 afgelast. Voor het huidige seizoen stond de Grand Prix ook op de kalender, maar uiteindelijk besloot men de race toch te schrappen. Of de Chinese Grand Prix volgend seizoen weer op de kalender staat is nog hoogstens onzeker. In Shanghai heeft men nu ieder geval een grote stap gezet naar een comeback op de kalender.

De organisatie van de Chinese Grand Prix laat weten dat hun Grade 1-licentie is hernieuwd. Een circuit mag alleen een Grand Prix organiseren als ze een zogenaamde Grade 1-licentie hebben ontvangen van de FIA. Het leek er daarna op dat de licentie was verlopen, maar deze problemen zijn nu verholpen. De organisatie laat weten dat er onderhoud is uitgevoerd aan de baan en zijn bandenstapels en hoofdtribune aangepakt.
