Hamilton ziet Indycar-test wel zitten: "Altijd leuk om nieuwe dingen te proberen"

Mercedes-coureur Lewis Hamilton beschikt momenteel over een aflopend contract bij zijn team. De Brit heeft de intentie uitgesproken om zijn contract gewoon te verlengen en hij lijkt niet te willen vertrekken uit de Formule 1. Hamilton is echter ook fan van andere klassen en zou dan ook openstaan voor een testrondje in een Indycar.

Hamilton sprak al meerdere keren uit dat hij actief wil blijven in de Formule 1 en dat hij het niet ziet zitten om te gaan racen in een andere klasse. De zevenvoudig wereldkampioen wil actief blijven bij Mercedes en blijft dromen van zijn achtste wereldtitel in de sport. Toch laat hij wel doorschemeren dat hij geniet van andere raceklassen in bijvoorbeeld de Verenigde Staten.

NASCAR

Hamilton ziet bijvoorbeeld dat zijn voormalige collega's Kimi Räikkönen en Jenson Button in actie komen in de NASCAR. Hamilton wordt geciteerd door Motorsport.com: "Een paar jaar geleden wisselde ik van auto met Tony Stewart, daar had ik heel erg van genoten. Op een bepaald moment zou ik het wel willen proberen. Ik droom er niet echt van, maar ik ben groot fan van de racerij. Ik vind het dus altijd leuk om nieuwe dingen te proberen."

Indycar

Hamilton geeft verder aan dat hij geniet van rondjes in andere voertuigen. Naast de NASCAR van Stewart nam hij bijvoorbeeld ook plaats op een MotoGP-machine van Valentino Rossi. Hamilton zou het dan ook wel zien zitten om weer eens een soortgelijk rondje te rijden: "Soms kijk ik wel eens naar de Indycar. Het lijkt mij fantastisch om ooit in zo'n auto te rijden. Ik zou wel graag in een auto van de oudere generatie willen rijden, want ik ben geen fan van de aeroscreen."

Ik geloof niet dat Hamilton carrièreadvies nodig heeft van het dweilorkest: als ik Thialf mag geloven wist Hamilton reeds in 2012, mogelijk zelfs eerder, dat hij met Mercedes gegarandeerd en zonder enige moeite te hoeven doen de grootste coureur uit de geschiedenis zou worden. Wat een ziener!

  @knookie: Het leven zou toch een saaie grijze bedoeling zijn zonder uitgesproken persoonlijkheden. Ik ben juist blij dat er mensen bij lopen die gewoon dragen wat ze willen ipv wat de grijze massa wil.

  Laat 'this guy' gewoon lekker testen. En ook indy racen. Hij vindt het blijkbaar leuk en ik ben wel benieuwd wat hij (wel of niet) kan. Alonso zit in de AM nu in zijn beste tweede jeugd, maar Indy was voor hem toch een pak anders.
