Wolff grapt naar Horner na pensioennieuws Tost: "Ben jij de volgende?"

Na het nieuws dat AlphaTauri-teambaas Franz Tost er na dit seizoen mee stopt, nam Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff de kans om te grappen dat hij hoopt dat concurrent en sportief rivaal Christian Horner binnenkort met soortgelijk nieuws naar buiten komt.

AlphaTauri-teambaas Franz Tost zit al sinds 2005 op de troon bij het Italiaanse team. Een ontzettend lange periode waarbij hij de leiding over een Formule 1-team heeft; een rol waarin hij alleen Red Bull-teambaas Christian Horner wat werkzame periode betreft voor zich moet dulden.

Maar na het einde van het seizoen gaat daar verandering in komen. De Oostenrijkse Tost kondigde eerder dit jaar namelijk aan om na dit seizoen zijn hoed op te hangen, en het stokje aan Laurent Mekies over te geven.

Tijdens de persconferentie vooraf aan de Miami Grand Prix nam Mercedes-topman Toto Wolff de gelegenheid om wat woorden over Tost te spreken, en kan het niet laten om een grapje richting concurrent Horner te sturen. “Franz (Tost) en ik zijn allebei van Oostenrijkse komaf, en begonnen beiden bij de Red Bull Ring met racen. We waren daar rijinstructeurs, alleen begon Franz 45 jaar eerder. We hebben elkaar echter met maar een paar jaar gemist. Hij heeft een geweldige carrière achter de rug en hij heeft het lang volgehouden, mijn complimenten.”

"Ben jij de langstzittende teambaas?", vraagt Wolff aan Tost. "Of ben jij dat, Christian (Horner)? Ah, dan ben jij de volgende zeker? Dat zou mijn leven een stuk makkelijker maken", sluit Wolff met een grijns af.

Vanaf volgend jaar heeft Tost niet meer de rol van F1-teambaas, en dus zal Wolff een plek omhoog schuiven waarbij Horner de veteraan van de autosport-topmannen blijft.

  Het zijn winnaars, en waarschijnlijk ook narcisten(niet slecht bedoeld) want dat heb je tegenwoordig bijna nodig om succesvol te zijn. vooral als baas of leider van een groot en succesvol bedrijf, komt niet van mij hoor, daar is onderzoek naar gedaan, staat nog een mooie docu van op het internet.
