Nieuw Hongaars circuit opent haar deuren, kan in toekomst F1-race organiseren

Na vier jaar lang onder constructie geweest te zijn, is het Balaton Park Circuit in Hongarije officieel geopend. De bouw ervan heeft zo'n 200 miljoen euro gekost, en is gepland om de hoogste veiligheidsgraad van de FIA te krijgen – een keurmerk dat het organiseren van een Formule 1-race in de toekomst mogelijk maakt.

Het Balaton Park Circuit gaat tegen de klok in, heeft zestien bochten en is zo'n 4,1 kilometer lang, íets korter dan de Hungaroring, die op haar beurt grofweg 4,4 kilometer bestrijkt. Het circuit is gebouwd om de hoogste keuring van de FIA te ontvangen, maar fans die naar een toekomstige Formule 1-race op dit circuit uitkijken zullen naar alle waarschijnlijkheid nog een flink aantal jaren moeten wachten om deze baan een potentiële kanshebber te laten worden. Het circuitmanagement heeft namelijk voor nu niet een Level 1 (F1-waardig), maar een Level 2-keurmerk aangevraagd, en staat de Hungaroring nog tot tenminste 2027 op de Formule 1-kalender.

Oud F1-coureur Giancarlo Fisichella was een van de eersten die het kersverse circuit mocht uitproberen, en was over de karakteristieken van de baan wel te spreken: "Ik was onder de indruk van het karakter (van de baan)", begint Fisichella. "Dit circuit heeft alles – een combinatie van hogesnelheidsbochten, uitdagende haarspeldbochten en coole chicanes. Het is een baan die lekker loopt en die je een goed gevoel geeft. De eerste bocht en de bocht aan het eind van de back-straight zijn de beste inhaalplekken."

Ze moeten wat daar rond het balaton meer. Vroeger was echt een chique omgeving om naar op vakantie te gaan maar het begint steeds meer te verpauperen. Lijkt me voor t racen beter dan de hungaroring.

Al heeft de hungaroring wonder boven wonder wel vaak nieuwe winnaars gebracht.

  Het kan aan mij liggen, maar ik vind dat de Hungaroring juist vaak leuke races heeft, ondanks dat het een baan is die erom bekend staat dat er moeilijk in te halen is.

Op meerdere plaatsen veel ruimte naast de directe baan met gras en veel brede grindbakken, een beetje old skool dus. Prima eigenlijk, zo op het eerste gezicht.

Die laatste foto lijkt wel een beetje op Assen, Haarbocht, Ossebroek, Strubben en Veenslang. En de eerste is de Geert Timmer..

Alleen hebben ze rond het Balatonmeer heerlijke wijnen en in Zandvoort moet je het met bier van de Dirk doen.
