F1-paddock vooralsnog niet getroffen door wateroverlast

Het noodweer in de omgeving van het circuit van Imola blijft de gemoederen bezighouden. Personeel werd gisteren verzocht om het circuit te verlaten en voor vandaag is geadviseerd om niet naar de baan te komen. Het lijkt erop dat de Formule 1-paddock vooralsnog niet is getroffen door de neerslag.

Het regent momenteel zeer hard in de regio Emilia-Romagna. Meerdere gebieden zijn al onder water gelopen en de rivier naast het circuit van Imola trad gisteren al buiten zijn oevers. Op sociale media gingen veel beelden rond van de overstromingen, maar op Twitter meldt de Spaanse journalist Albert Fabrega dat de pitlane en de Formule 1-paddock in orde zijn. Op een foto is te zien dat onder meer de Formule 2-paddock wel is getroffen door de regen.

Het nabij gelegen Faenza is wel getroffen door overstromingen, op sociale media gingen beelden rond van ondergelopen straten. Het team van AlphaTauri is gevestigd in Faenza en op Twitter spreekt het team zich dan ook uit. De renstal laat weten dat er inderdaad overstromingen zijn en roept iedereen op om te doneren aan een fonds voor de getroffenen van de overstromingen.

Daar is toch echt wel een serieuze bak water gevallen. En het regent nog steeds.

Kan best zijn dat het vanaf morgen afzwakt, maar of dat water dan allemaal voldoende weg is om te kunnen racen vraag ik me af. Voorlopig hebben de organisatie en de teams de opbouw moeten staken. Meerdere dorpen staan blank. Bezoekers zullen waarschijnlijk vaak niet terecht kunnen in de geboekte accomodaties/campings. Hulpdiensten hebben hun handen vol aan evacuaties en het redden van mensen. Die kunnen niet ingezet worden om de GP in goede banen te leiden.

Hoe zeer ik ook zin heb in een F1 weekend... ik begin er een hard hoofd in te krijgen.

  De regio heeft inderdaad momenteel wel iets anders aan haar hoofd dan een F1 evenement.
  
  Infrastructuur is geraakt, het openbaar vervoer ligt plat, hulpdiensten zijn druk met reddingen en ondersteuning.

  Mee eens. Dit doet me denken aan Melbourne 2020. Iedereen zag wel aankomen dat het niet kon en niet moest doorgaan, maar de FIA hield lang voet bij stuk. Hopelijk gaat het dit keer anders.

  Mensen die hun leven zijn verloren in de regio. Huizen die onbewoonbaar zijn. Bruggen en wegen die beschadigd zijn. Het support paddock dat, in tegenstelling tot dit nieuwsbericht, wel degelijk is ondergelopen.

  Over een half uurtje een Persconferentie van de regering van de regio. Daarin wordt waarschijnlijk niet de Grand Prix besproken. Maar de FOM en de organisatie zullen later deze middag met een verklaring komen. Geluiden sijpelen door dat de instructie aan de teams al gegeven is om materieel en personeel veilig permanent te evacueren indien mogelijk.

Als de FIA niet tijdig de knoop doorhakt gaan ze door de mangel. Als de organisatie alle laten moet dragen, gaan ze door de mangel.

Hier moet de FIA zich gewoon tegen verzekeren zodat het niet zo'n drama wordt. Iedereen ziet dat als er 2 dagen voor de vrije training evacuaties nodig zijn in het gebied dat het F1 circus daar niet thuis hoort op dit moment.

Bij de laatste beelden stond de waterstand boven de onderkant van een aantal trailers. Dus daar zal ook nog wel een hoop werk zijn. Het zal mij benieuwen of de race van Monaco wel plaats zal vinden. Immers die trailers moeten ook nog weg daar.
