Sainz schrok van voorsprong Red Bull: "Dit seizoen is zwaarder dan ooit"

Het team van Red Bull Racing is momenteel oppermachtig in de Formule 1. Het gat met de concurrentie is zeer groot en de teams van Ferrari, Aston Martin en Mercedes vechten vooral met elkaar. Ferrari-coureur Carlos Sainz baalt van de huidige situatie en hij had de voorsprong van Red Bull nooit zien aankomen.

Ferrari was vorig seizoen nog de grote uitdager van Red Bull Racing. Vooral in de eerste seizoenshelft was de Italiaanse renstal snel en waren ze zelfs vaak sneller dan Red Bull. Ferrari-coureurs Charles Leclerc en Carlos Sainz stonden zelfs met enige regelmaat op het hoogste treetje van het podium. Ferrari kampte echter ook met grote betrouwbaarheidsproblemen waardoor Red Bull een grote voorsprong kon uitbouwen.

Zwaarder

Dit jaar wilde Ferrari een stap voorwaarts zetten, maar dat plannetje kon al snel de koelkast in. Carlos Sainz baalt en heeft moeite met de huidige situatie. In een interview met The Race is de Spanjaard eerlijk: "Dit seizoen is zwaarder dan alle andere jaren. Ik had het gevoel dat 2022 het comebackjaar voor Ferrari was. Ik denk dat wij allemaal hadden verwacht dat we dit jaar tenminste op hetzelfde niveau zouden zitten. Ik denk dat hele team dit had verwacht."

Motivatie

Sainz merkt dat de dominantie van Red Bull voor een flinke dip in zijn motivatie heeft gezorgd. De Spanjaard blijft echter wel strijdvaardig: "Het was moeilijk om jezelf ineens ruim een halve seconde achter Red Bull te vinden. Je moet resetten en terug naar de tekentafel gaan. Als we vierde waren geweest, maar dat we wel elk weekend hadden kunnen winnen, dan was het makkelijker om te accepteren. Het is nu gewoon zo dat Red Bull enorm snel is, dat was voor ons een enorme verrassing. Ik denk dat Mercedes en Aston Martin dit ook niet hadden verwacht."

Stonden de heren inderdaad 'met enige regelmaat' op het hoogste treetje? Ja, de eerste drie races was dat wel het geval bij Charles, maar daarna was het dan ook compleet afgelopen. En Carlos stond daar maar een keertje, dus om hier van enige regelmaat te spreken, is wat mij betreft geheel onterecht. Met enige onregelmaat dus.

  Het is dus niet de voorsprong van RBR maar meer de achterstand van Ferrari. Als je te langzaam bent dan moet je harder werken om sneller te worden.

Carlos zegt helemaal niets over een dip in zijn motivatie in de opvolgende quote, alleen dat de situatie anders was dan werd verwacht of op gehoopt en hoe er op geanticipeerd moest worden...

die red bull kan nog harder denk ik, maar ze gaan voor safe. als dat ding echt wordt opengedraaid gaat er ingegrepen worden. beetje hetzelfde als de mercedes jaren.
