Gasly profiteert van cancelen Grand Prix van Emilia-Romagna

Het cancelen van de Grand Prix van Emilia-Romagna zorgt voor allerlei problemen en vraagtekens. Het is immers onduidelijk of de race op een ander moment kan worden gereden en zo zijn er wel meer vraagtekens. Voor Alpine-coureur Pierre Gasly komt het wegvallen van de race in Imola echter wel goed uit.

Afgelopen woensdag werd bekend dat de Formule 1 heeft besloten om de Grand Prix te cancelen. Door extreme regenval en overstromingen in Emilia-Romagna werd het haast onmogelijk om de race door te laten gaan. De coureurs balen daar vanzelfsprekend van, maar voor Pierre Gasly komt het goed uit. De Fransman verliest na dit weekend namelijk twee van zijn strafpunten en aangezien de race in Imola niet doorgaat, kan hij geen nieuwe strafpunten verdienen.

Gasly staat momenteel op 10 strafpunten. Een coureur wordt voor één raceweekend geschorst als hij 12 strafpunten op zijn superlicentie heeft verzameld. Gasly kwam hier dus dichtbij in de buurt en zou bij een incident in Imola dus in de problemen kunnen komen. Nu is dat onmogelijk aangezien er op 22 mei twee strafpunten wegvallen, hierdoor staat Gasly in Monaco weer op 8 strafpunten. Op 10 juli vervallen er weer strafpunten voor Gasly.
