Pirelli zoekt naar vervangend raceweekend voor kwalificatieformat

Het cancelen van de Grand Prix van Emilia-Romagna zorgt voor een aantal nieuwe problemen. De teams stonden volledig achter de beslissing van de Formule 1, maar het heeft wel grote gevolgen voor bandenleverancier Pirelli. Het was dit weekend namelijk de bedoeling om te experimenteren met het kwalificatieformat.

Dit weekend zouden de teams te maken krijgen met een experiment van bandenleverancier Pirelli. In Imola zouden de coureurs in de kwalificatie gebruik moeten maken van vooraf vastgestelde bandencompounds. In het eerste kwalificatiegedeelte zouden de coureurs met de harde band moeten rijden, in het tweede kwalificatiegedeelte met de mediums en in het derde deel mochten dan de softs worden gebruikt.

Aangezien de overstromingen en de neerslag in de omgeving van Imola ervoor hebben gezorgd dat het weekend niet doorgaat, zoekt men bij Pirelli naar een oplossing. De Italiaanse bandenleverancier laat aan Motorsport Magazin echter weten dat ze in Hongarije ook gaan experimenteren met het nieuwe kwalificatieformat met de vaste bandencompounds. Voor een vervangend raceweekend moet men nog in gesprek met de Formule 1 en de FIA. Het is niet duidelijk welke raceweekend ze op het oog hebben.
