Andretti groot fan van stratencircuits: "Wordt een geweldige sfeer gecreëerd"

De huidige Formule 1-kalender kent veel Grands Prix op stratencircuits. Aankomend weekend wordt er gereden op het klassieke stratencircuit van Monaco, maar daarnaast staat er ook een aantal nieuwere stratencircuits op het programma. Deze nieuwe circuits kunnen op veel kritiek rekenen, Mario Andretti snapt hier helemaal niets van.

In de afgelopen jaren verschenen er steeds meer stratencircuits op de kalender van de koningsklasse van de autosport. Dit seizoen staan er bijvoorbeeld Grands Prix in de straten van Jeddah, Bakoe, Singapore, Miami en Las Vegas op het programma. Niet iedereen is fan van deze circuits, ze hebben weinig racehistorie en de banen zorgen niet altijd voor spectaculaire races.

Sfeer

Niet iedereen kan zich vinden in de kritiek op het groeiende aantal stratencircuits. Enkelvoudig wereldkampioen Mario Andretti laat aan Planet F1 weten dat hij het hier niet mee eens is: "Nee, absoluut niet. Er wordt daar echt een geweldige sfeer gecreëerd. Kijk naar de presentatie van de coureurs in Miami. Je kunt daar niets op aanmerken. Dat is een serieuze investering en zorgt voor een lange levensduur en een duurzame toekomst. Kijk naar wat ze in Las Vegas uitgeven. Dat doen ze niet voor iets eenmaligs. De dagen van Dallas en Phoenix zijn voorbij."

Andretti kijkt vooral uit naar de Grand Prix van Las Vegas die later dit jaar wordt verreden. De Amerikaanse racelegende denkt deze race een grote toekomst heeft: "Er is iets speciaals aan de stratencircuits. Je moet er zeker voorzichtig mee omgaan, maar er valt niets aan te merken op de huidige aanpak. Ik kan mij de laatste race in Las Vegas nog wel voor de geest halen. Dat was toen op een grote parkeerplaats. Wat ze nu voorbereiden is heel indrukwekkend."

Nou....ik heb gameplay beelden van het circuit gezien in de F1 game. Qua lay-out oersaai.

Toch wel vreemd dat men de kaartjes voor 40% van de prijs aan heeft geboden
en alsnog de tribunes half leeg waren.
Bovendien heeft maar de helft van het aantal mensen vergeleken met vorig jaar
de race online/ op TV bekeken.

  En allemaal maar roepen dat de Amerikanen gek zijn op de F1, die paar die er naar kijken, het is gewoon een lachertje.
  
  F1 in de VS is niets, en wordt ook nooit iets, gewoon bij 1 circuit houden,, in Austin. in Texas .

  Op deoranjecamping kijken er nog meer mensen. Verder is 40% van wat ze vroegen gewoon nog steeds veel te duur.
