Sainz omschrijft crash als 'typisch Monaco-incident'

Ferrari-coureur Carlos Sainz presteerde zeker niet slecht op de vrijdag in Monaco. De Spanjaard noteerde de snelste tijd in de eerste vrije training, maar in de tweede vrije training ging het helemaal mis. Sainz crashte en beschadigde zijn auto. Hij noemt het zelf een typisch Monaco-moment.

Sainz liet in de eerste twee vrije trainingen zien dat Ferrari dit weekend zeker de strijd aan kan gaan met de teams van Red Bull Racing, Mercedes en Aston Martin. In de slotfase van de tweede vrije training raakte Sainz bij het zwembad de vangrail. Hij beschadigde zijn voorwielophanging en knalde de andere vangrail in, een crash die men in het verleden wel vaker zag.

Na afloop van de twee vrije trainingen keek Sainz met een redelijk positief gevoel terug op de dag. De Spaanse Ferrari-coureur bespreekt zijn crash in gesprek met F1 TV: "Om eerlijk te zijn, het was maar een kleine crash. Ik raakte gewoon de muur aan de binnenkant van bocht 15. Het was echt een typische Monaco-misrekening. Het is jammer dat de monteurs nu extra tijd moete besteden aan de auto. Op het gebied van het vertrouwen en de pace, was het vandaag best goed. Een kleine fout heeft daar verder geen invloed op."
