DRS-zones bij Grand Prix Spanje worden niet ingekort

Wat betreft de potentiële inhaalkansen voor aankomend Grand Prix-weekend kunnen de twintig snelste coureurs ter wereld opgelucht ademhalen. Nadat de FIA eerder dit seizoen al bij meerdere circuits de DRS-zones inkortte – wat tot veel ongenoegen bij de coureurs leidde – heeft de sportief regelgever besloten om de zones op het Spaanse Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya onveranderd te laten.

In haar zoektocht om races zonder poespas te creëren, poogde de FIA in samenwerking met de Formule 1 om dit seizoen een aantal DRS-zones in te korten. Het argument was dat de nieuwste generatie F1-auto's – die vorig seizoen in de sport werden geïntroduceerd - betere inhaalkansen genereerde dan haar voorgangers. Zodoende besloten de leidende partijen om te experimenteren met het inkorten van DRS-zones, een beslissing waar vele coureurs (en teams) niet al te blij mee waren.

Maar, nu lijkt de autosportbond tóch naar de kritiek van de coureurs te hebben geluisterd. Het aankomende Grand Prix-weekend, dat op het Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya afgewerkt zal worden, zal wat betreft de lengte van de DRS-zones onveranderd blijven. In combinatie met het gebruik van de nieuwe lay-out zonder chicane in de laatste sector, zullen de coureurs naar alle waarschijnlijkheid stukken meer inhaalkansen krijgen.

Verstappen kan z'n DRS natuurlijk wel gebruiken als 'ie Hamilton of Perez op een rondje zet.

Vergroot wel de kans op meer inhaalacties richting bocht 1.. Probleem van die bocht blijft echter wel bestaan dat hij nogal flauw is en dus niet echt een heel heftige rem-zone en schijnbaar relatief makkelijk te verdedigen.. Als men wil inhalen zal dat dus al voor de bocht moeten gebeuren..

  De baan is trouwens aangepast, bocht 14 & 15 zijn eruit gehaald, wellicht zien op die plek meer inhaal acties.
