Bosbranden brengen Canadese Grand Prix niet in gevaar

Over ruim een week gaat het Formule 1-seizoen weer verder met de Canadese Grand Prix in Montreal. In Canada kampt men momenteel met grote bosbranden waardoor de luchtkwaliteit in grote delen van het land zeer slecht is. Toch gaat de Formule 1 er vanuit dat de Grand Prix zonder problemen kan doorgaan.

Canada wordt momenteel geteisterd door grote bosbranden. In de provincie Quebec, waar Montreal ligt, zijn er inmiddels meer dan 150 bosbranden gerapporteerd. De grote branden zorgen ervoor dat er zeer veel rook in de lucht hangt, de luchtkwaliteit is hierdoor zeer slecht. De rook bereikte ook de Verenigde Staten en in meerdere steden en gebieden kregen mensen te horen dat ze beter binnen konden blijven.

De Formule 1 heeft echter aangegeven zich geen grote zorgen te maken over het doorgaan van de Grand Prix. Volgens de sport ligt het gebied van de grootste bosbranden op zo'n 800 kilometer van het circuit. Ook liet de sport weten dat de luchtkwaliteit in Montreal al flink wat beter is geworden. Daarnaast draait de wind in de komende dagen waardoor de rook niet meer richting Montreal wordt geblazen. Wel geeft men aan de de Incident Management Group de situatie nauwlettend in de gaten zal blijven houden.
