Aston Martin vindt foto's van Red Bull-vloer 'interessant'

Tijdens het raceweekend in Monaco kregen de teams de kans op de vloer van Red Bull Racing te bekijken. De wagen van Sergio Perez werd na een crash de lucht in getakeld waardoor iedereen de vloer kon zien. Bij Aston Martin vond men de Red Bull-vloer zeer interessant, maar verwachten ze er geen grote voordelen uit te kunnen halen.

Vanwege het ruimtegebrek in Monaco worden gestrande auto's door grote kranen omhoog getakeld en elders neergezet. Hierdoor kan iedereen de vloer zien van de desbetreffende auto. Sergio Perez crashte in het eerste deel van de Monegaskische kwalificatie waardoor iedereen de onderzijde van de Red Bull kon zien. Bij de Oostenrijkse renstal was men hier niet zo blij mee.

Bij het team van Aston Martin bekeek men de vloer met zeer veel interesse. Toch gaat men de Red Bull-vloer niet één op één kopiëren. Aston Martin performance director Tom McCullough geeft namelijk aan dat dit vrij weinig nut heeft. McCullough wordt geciteerd door RaceFans: "Het is altijd interessant om dit soort foto's te zien, maar je hebt uiteindelijk ook gewoon je eigen ontwikkelingen, windtunnelactiviteiten en CFD. Je bent altijd onderdelen aan het uitproberen om dingen zoals je downforce te verbeteren. Het is dus leuk om te zien, maar het concept is niet heel anders."

Het meest interessante aan de vloer, en dat zorgde voor hoofdbrekens bij de andere teams, was het feit dat de vloer van RBR op het houten gedeelte enorm veel slijtage bevatte behalve op de punten waar er gemeten wordt.
Geen enkel ander team heeft dergelijke slijtage op de houten plank en de andere teams staan voor een raadsel hoe RB dit doet. Dit raadsel was nog veel groter dan de luchtkanalen die te zien waren. Hoewel deze op zichzelf al een kunstwerk waren.

  Dat met die houten plank was toch een "probleem" van vorig jaar of het jaar ervoor ?
  Ik kan me niet herinneren er ook maar iets over gelezen te hebben dit seizoen !

  Ik wel. wat Rimmer schrijft klopt helemaal. Andere teams vonden het zeer opmerkelijk dat die plank bij RBR enorm slijt behalve op de meetpunten.
  Ik zie wel iets aankomen.........

  De houten vloer was nooit een issue bij Red Bull. Ook de ski's niet. Met de oude regels sleten ze scheef maar was er altijd een plek waar deze dik genoeg was.
  In Spa is die regel onder andere aangescherpt. De ski's moesten overal voldoen aan de maximum slijtage.
  Wat de vloer betreft weet ik haast zeker dat ook daar de vloer overal moet voldoen aan de minimum dikte.
  Dus ik denk dat het allemaal wel meevalt met dat houten stuk vloer. En het binnenstuk meer laten slijten is absoluut niet moelijk. Gewoon de vloer dusdanig onder druk zetten dat deze uitbol in het midden..

  Ik heb net beide fotos eens bekeken. De vloer van RBR en de vloer van AMG. Terwijl beide werden weggetakeld. Ik zie niet zo veel verschil? Kan iemand het toelichten?

  1 ding weet ik zeker, als jij een verschil had gezien dan had het al groots in de kranten gestaan dus dat verschil is niet op foto,s te zien. Er zal wel een geniaal trucje achter zitten, maar trucjes zijn uiteraard geheim en vallen meestal in grijs gebied van het regelement.

Ze hebben helemaal niets aan die foto's, iedereen ontwikkeld zijn eigen weg, wat moet je daar nu mee.

En het grote geheim is toch verborgen, nee alleen foto's van een vloer daar heeft niemand iets aan.
