W Series onder curatele gesteld

Het begint er steeds meer op te lijken dat de W Series niet meer gaat terugkeren. De klasse voor vrouwelijke coureurs moest het seizoen vorig jaar vroegtijdig afbreken en sindsdien was het muisstil. Vandaag kwam daar verandering in en werd bekend dat de klasse onder curatele is gesteld.

De W Series werd in 2019 gelanceerd als de klasse voor vrouwelijk talent. De klasse reed eerst in het voorprogramma van de DTM, maar werd daarna gepromoveerd tot een klasse in het voorprogramma van de Formule 1. Het kampioenschap werd gedomineerd door de Britse Jamie Chadwick die alle drie de titels won. Ook de titel van 2022 ging haar kant op, al werd dat seizoen wel vroegtijdig afgebroken.

Vorig jaar kwam namelijk naar buiten dat de klasse het seizoen vroegtijdig ging beëindigen omdat er niet genoeg geld binnen kwam. Op financieel gebied ging het niet goed en sinds het stoppen van het 2022-seizoen bleef het stil. Daar is nu dus verandering in gekomen met het nieuws dat de klasse onder curatele is gesteld. De kans is zeer klein dat de W Series ooit nog een comeback gaat maken. Na het wegvallen van de klasse riep de Formule 1 namelijk de soortgelijke F1 Academy in het leven.

    Het heeft er wel voor gezorgd dat Chadwick op een vrijdag morgen een vrijetraining had zouden mogen rijden. Maar vul de kans erop met 2 nullen en een komma ertussen.

    Er was geen sponsor geïnteresseerd en dus volgde hetzelfde lot als de A1GP waar ook gewoon te weinig sponsor en TV geld binnen kwam

    Volgens mij werden hier gewoon een soort F3-auto's voor gebruikt, dus die vinden vast wel een nieuwe bestemming. Op zich jammer dat dit nooit echt goed van de grond is gekomen, want het was een snellere doorstroom van vrouwen te realiseren.

      Verplichte quota en exclusiviteit zijn niemands favoriete instrumenten, maar wel effectief om een achtergestelde of ondervertegenwoordigde groep te helpen om een inhaalslag te maken.

      Erg effectief om stigma’s te versterken. Barrières moeten aan de onderkant van de ladder weg worden genomen. Zo worden gelijke kansen gecreëerd. Gezien het marketing voordeel, hebben vrouwen bij gelijke geschiktheid al een streepje voor.

      Dat was de bedoeling ja, of tenminste, zo wilde de FIA dat ons laten geloven.

      Tracktime is de beste manier om talent te ontwikkelen, daarom kreeg de W-series minder dan de helft van de tracktime tov F3.
      Minder races per jaar, en in een raceweekend ook nog eens minder sessies op de baan.

      Heel die W-series (en ik vrees ook de F1-academy) is opgezet als een 'kijk ons eens feministisch zijn en vrouwen helpen met in F1 te komen' terwijl effectief het omgekeerde wordt behaald, want de andere klassen hebben veel meer tracktime en kunnen zich dus veel sneller ontwikkelen.

      Als de FIA/FOM het echt zouden willen dat vrouwen in de F1 komen, is een W-series/F1-Academy helemaal geen verkeerd idee, maar dan moeten ze wel minimaal evenveel tracktime krijgen als de opstapklassen (F2/F3/F4) en bij voorkeur meer, want dan kunnen ze ervaring op doen en beter leren racen.

      Even als voorbeeld het complete 2021 seizoen:
      races voor de W-series.
      Ieder raceweekend had:
      1 training van 30 minuten
      kwalificatie sessie
      1 race op zaterdag van 30 minuten

      F3 heeft het volgende weekend format:
      45 minuten training
      30 minuten kwalificatie (shoot-out session wordt het genoemd)
      Sprint race op zaterdag van 40 minuten
      Feature race op zondag van 45 minuten

      F3 heeft dus bijna de dubbele tracktime van de W-series.

    Voeg gewoon 3 extra teams die alleen vrouwen mogen recruteren in de F3 en F2 classen. Zou dat niet een oplossing KUNNEN zijn?
