'Ferrari vindt oplossing voor vertrekkende Mekies'

Eerder dit jaar werd bekend dat Franz Tost na dit seizoen vertrekt als de teambaas van AlphaTauri. De Italiaanse renstal presenteerde daarna Laurent Mekies als de nieuwe teambaas voor volgend seizoen. Mekies werkt momenteel nog voor Ferrari en daar wilde men hem niet laten gaan. Daar lijkt nu echter verandering in te komen.

Mekies is momenteel werkzaam als de race director van Ferrari. Hij vervult een belangrijke rol op de pitmuur en bij Ferrari was men dan ook niet blij toen bekend werd dat hij het team na dit jaar gaat verlaten. De Italiaanse renstal wilde hem niet laten gaan, tot ergernis van AlphaTauri-eigenaar Red Bull. Nu lijkt het het erop dat Ferrari naar een vertrek van Mekies toewerkt.

De Italiaanse tak van Motorsport.com meldt namelijk dat Mekies na de Hongaarse Grand Prix met gardening leave gaat. Hij kan in 2024 dan ook gewoon aan de slag gaan bij AlphaTauri. Volgens het medium werkt Mekies dit weekend in Canada nauw samen met Diego Ioverno. Hij is één van de mensen die Mekies na zijn vertrek zal gaan opvolgen en Ferrari bereidt zichzelf daarmee voor op het aanstaande vertrek van Mekies.
