Spa heeft vertrouwen in nieuw contract: "Het was een positief gesprek"

Het begint er steeds meer op te lijken dat er in 2024 weer een Belgische Grand Prix op de kalender staat. De race op het circuit van Spa-Francorchamps beschikt over een aflopend contract, maar de gesprekken met de hoge heren van de Formule 1 zijn in volle gang. In België heeft men inmiddels vertrouwen in een goede afloop.

De interesse in het organiseren van een Grand Prix is groot. Meerdere steden, landen en circuits hebben verregaande interesse in het organiseren van een race. Een aantal van deze wedstrijden zullen waarschijnlijk wel op de kalender verschijnen en dat zal waarschijnlijk ten koste gaan van een aantal historische Grands Prix in Europa.

Vooral Spa-Francorchamps staat onder druk. De race werd op het allerlaatste moment toegevoegd aan de kalender van dit jaar en heeft nog geen contract voor 2024. Promotor Vanessa Maes is inmiddels in gesprek met de Formule 1 over een nieuw contract. Maes was aanwezig in Montreal om te overleggen met Formule 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali en ze spreekt zich uit bij RTBF: "Het was een positief gesprek. Hij staat open voor gesprekken met ons. We gaan niet te vroeg juichen, maar het gaat de juiste kant op." De gesprekken gingen vooralsnog alleen over 2024.
