Sainz tempert verwachtingen na goed resultaat bij Grand Prix Canada

Het Formule 1-team van Ferrari heeft een goede Canadese Grand Prix verreden, maar coureur Carlos Sainz waarschuwt zijn team om meteen al te verwachten dat er een flinke stap voorwaarts in performance is gemaakt.

Ferrari-coureurs Charles Leclerc en Carlos Sainz startten de recentelijke Grand Prix van Canada stevig in het middenveld, maar wisten zich beiden met succes naar voren te werken. Onder andere een uitstekende strategische beslissing om de SF23-auto's tijdens de safety car in ronde 13 niet voor vers rubber naar binnen te halen, betekende dat Leclerc en Sainz in vrije lucht terechtkwamen en zodoende de sterke racepace van hun openwielbolides konden ontgrendelen.

Bij het vallen van de finishvlag reed Leclerc op de vierde plaats, terwijl teamgenoot Sainz als vijfde de race voltooide. Na afloop van de race op Circuit Gilles Villeneuve probeert Sainz de verwachtingen voor de aankomende races alvast een beetje te dempen: "Dit hele weekend waren we snel. Het is flink zonde dat we een slechte kwalificatie hadden, anders konden we ons in het gevecht mengen met Aston Martin en Mercedes. Dat is onze eigen fout geweest."

"We proberen de volgende keer een goede kans beter te benutten. Gelukkig voelde de auto goed aan, en konden we daardoor hard pushen. We komen steeds verder, maar of we competitief zijn hangt natuurlijk ook af van het circuit. In Barcelona hadden we het zwaar, omdat daar veel hogesnelheidsbochten zijn. Vanwege de lay-out was Canada makkelijker voor ons om een goed resultaat te halen. We kijken nu vooruit naar Oostenrijk. Het blijft een kwestie van afwachten of we daar goed kunnen presteren, aangezien onze performance ook nogal afhangt van een goede bandendegradatie", concludeert Sainz.

Beschamend wat ze lieten zien en vooral lieten horen...een team wat totaal niet meer relevant is voor het WDC en dan alsnog je snellere rijder een halt toe roepen.

Beschamend wat ze lieten zien en vooral lieten horen...een team wat totaal niet meer relevant is voor het WDC en dan alsnog je snellere rijder een halt toe roepen.

Ze kregen de bandjes in de juiste "window" en dat scheelt een heeeeleboellll, kun je langer doorrijden en mss wel een pitstop minder in een race en dan kun je vooraan meedoen.

  Het weer in Oostenrijk kan voorlopig eerst nog weer ff terug naar de w8chtkamer tot volgende week. Het weer tijdens de TT in Assen daarentegen gaat dit weekend in elk geval dondersmooi worden, een dikke fles factor 30 ligt alvast in mijn tassie, en die gaat 100% helemaal leeg!
