Sainz verwacht wisselend presterende Ferrari bij aankomende Grands Prix

Ferrari-coureur Carlos Sainz heeft bij de Canadese Grand Prix een goed resultaat weten te behalen, maar voor consistente successen moet de Scuderia nog even afwachten. Volgens Sainz staan er een aantal circuits te wachten waar de SF23-bolide van Ferrari naar alle waarschijnlijkheid wisselend zal presteren.

Vooraf aan de Grand Prix van Canada stond Ferrari er niet al te best voor, maar na afloop van race nummer negen van het F1-seizoen van 2023 kunnen coureurs Charles Leclerc en Carlos Sainz met een goed gevoel terugkijken. Beide mannen kwamen dankzij een uitstekende strategie en goede racepace vanuit een middenveldpositie richting een P4 en P5; een resultaat dat misschien een signaal afgeeft dat het team uit Maranello een positieve weg is ingeslagen.

Maar, volgens Sainz hoeven de supports van het scharlakenrode team nog niet zozeer op consistente successen te rekenen. De enkelvoudig Grand Prix-winnaar meent dat de SF23-openwielbolide van Ferrari momenteel nog te afhankelijk is van bepaalde karakteristieken dat een circuit heeft.

"Onze snelheid in Oostenrijk zal veel afhangen van de karakteristieken van het circuit. Bij circuits zoals Monaco of Canada waren we sterker dan op locaties waar er veel hogesnelheidsbochten zijn, zoals bijvoorbeeld Barcelona. Wat dat betreft denk ik dat bij de aankomende races we in verschillende mate competitief zullen zijn", concludeert Sainz.

Ook al is Ferrari mijn favoriete team - helaas verwacht ik geen wonderen dit jaar (en ook niet in 2024).

Hadden ze Mattia Binotto niet gewoon moeten houden vraag ik me af, misschien zie ik het verkeerd, wel een mannetje naast hem, maar ik weet niet of dit nu wel een vooruitgang zal zijn.

  Binotto is vooral de reden dat het niet loopt dit jaar. Dus neen, hem houden was absoluut niet de betere beslissing.
  
  Mattia is in het verleden zeer waardevol geweest voor Ferrari, vooral in zijn periode voor hij TP werd. Ik wil zijn overgave en vele jaren niet teniet doen door de man aan de schandpaal te nagelen. Maar het is duidelijk dat hij als verantwoordelijke verkeerde beslissingen nam.
  Niet vergeten dat de SF23 met zijn zegen werd ontwikkeld - goed wetende wat de zwakheden van de F1-75 waren. Dat en de manco aan doorslaggevende veranderingen waar het heel hard nodig was: strategisch en operationeel. Daar bleef Mattia het been stijf houden.
  
  Kortom, ik zie - ondanks de sterke start - 2022 een jaar waarin er veel te weinig en veel te traag vooruitgang werd geboekt, een gemis aan daadkracht alsook durf om zaken te veranderen. 2023 had daarom echt niet beter geweest met Binotto als TP, en een stapje opzij of lager wou de Zwitser niet zetten (begrijpelijk).
  
  De verloren tijd moet Vasseur en zijn troepen nu trachten in te halen en net zoals Flying Dutchman het hierboven schrijft, vrees ik dat ook 2024 een jaar van opbouw en verandering zal zijn voor 'mijn' Scuderia. Hopelijk met zichtbare positieve impact.

  Ze hadden Binotto niet de laan moeten uitsturen. Maar hem daar neerzetten waar ie goed in is. En dan Vasseur gewoon de team Bobo laten spelen
