Liberty Media CEO ziet komst Andretti Cadillac wel zitten

In de afgelopen maanden konden potentiële nieuwe teams zich melden bij de FIA. De autosportfederatie had een zogenaamde expression of interest geopend en meerdere geïnteresseerden meldden zich. De meest in het oog springende partij is Andretti Cadillac. Liberty Media CEO Greg Maffei vindt de samenwerking tussen de twee Amerikaanse grootmachten zeer interessant.

Andretti heeft al geruime tijd interesse in deelname aan de koningsklasse van de autosport. Samen met General Motors-merk Cadillac heeft Andretti zich aangemeld bij de FIA. Ze spreken zich geregeld uit in de media en ze geven aan dat ze alles al klaar hebben staan voor de deelname aan de Formule 1. Ondanks dat de huidige teams niet achter de komst van nieuwe teams staan, lijkt de FIA het wel te zien zitten.

Structuur

Ook Formule 1-eigenaar Liberty Media is fan van het plan. Liberty Media CEO Greg Maffei weet dat er wel een aantal dingen moeten veranderen als er nieuwe teams worden toegelaten. In de Walker en Dunlop Webcast spreekt Maffei zich hierover uit: "Het echte probleem is de structuur waarmee we vandaag de dag werken. In bepaalde paddocks wordt het lastig om een elfde team onder te brengen. Misschien kunnen we dat oplossen met tijd en geld. Het is niet iets wat je zomaar voor elkaar krijgt."

Andretti

Maffei kent de plannen van Andretti en Cadillac. De CEO van Liberty Media denkt dat de komst van de Amerikaanse partij goed is voor de sport: "Ik denk dat daar wel goede redenen voor zijn. Ik denk dat we blij mogen zijn dat we zoveel OEMs hebben tegenwoordig, zoveel hebben we er nog nooit gehad. Meer OEMs, en dan vooral een Amerikaanse autobouwer, zou zeker positief zijn voor de sport."

Ik hoop gewoon op dat er 2 extra licenties vergeven gaat worden. 24 teams lijkt gewoon mooier en geeft weer meer waarde aan waarom de top 10 tegenwoordig punten krijgen. (Ooit ingevoerd vanwege caterham/manor/hrt een iets grotere kans te geven op punten)

Ik hoop gewoon op dat er 2 extra licenties vergeven gaat worden. 24 teams lijkt gewoon mooier en geeft weer meer waarde aan waarom de top 10 tegenwoordig punten krijgen. (Ooit ingevoerd vanwege caterham/manor/hrt een iets grotere kans te geven op punten)

Of het nou Andretti en Hitech wordt, of Saudi equal en een Chinees project... dat maakt me dan niet eens uit. (Voorkeur wel voor andretti en hitech als bestaande teams) zolang de volledige licentie capaciteit maar weer eens wordt benut

  Nou, 24 teams lijkt mij een beetje veel van het goede. Dan hebben we 48 auto's op de grid staan. Maar 12 teams lijkt mij wel mooi. 😉
