Alpine-CEO denkt aan uitstellen deadline: 100 race-plan kan 120-race plan worden

De topman van Alpine Laurent Rossi heeft het bereiken van de top in de Formule 1 nog steeds als missie, maar of het binnen de oorspronkelijke 100 races zal gaan lukken, blijft nog afwachten. Volgens Rossi is zijn renstal goed bezig om stappen dichterbij Red Bull en haar achtervolgers te zetten, maar zegt dat de deadline van 100 races misschien moet worden uitgesteld naar 120 races.

In haar ambities om de top van de Formule 1 te bereiken, houdt het team van Alpine haar vizier op een zogeheten 100-race plan. Binnen 100 races zou de Franse renstal de successen van de koningsklasse moeten kunnen ervaren. Het plan stamt uit 2021, toen Alpine-CEO Laurent Rossi het doel in leven bracht om binnen 100 Grands Prix het team naar de top te brengen. Sindsdien heeft Alpine een aantal ups, maar vooral ook downs ervaren. De start van het 2023-seizoen viel zwaar tegen, waardoor Rossi zijn team publiekelijk bekritiseerde.

Ondanks dat zijn kritiek het team misschien vooruit heeft geholpen – bijvoorbeeld met een derde finishplaats voor coureur Esteban Ocon bij de Monaco Grand Prix – denkt Rossi eraan om zijn ambitieuze 100 race-plan misschien te vergroten naar een deadline van 120 races. "Alles loopt in de juiste richting, we kunnen zien dat we het plan volgen. Of het nu jaar drie (van Alpine's plan) is, het zouden ook 120 (Grands Prix) kunnen zijn. Omdat het tijdperk (van de nieuwe regelementen) met een jaar is verlengd, gaan we door tot 2025."

"Mijn doel is dat het Formule 1 team van Alpine vanaf 2025 dezelfde middelen heeft als de topteams, en dat het op een manier opereert waarop ze die middelen kunnen inzetten om een geloofwaardige kanshebber voor het podium te worden. Dat is het (doel). En die richting gaan we nog steeds op. Ik heb het gevoel dat we nog steeds op koers liggen", concludeert Rossi.

Ik denk eerder het budget. Maar Renault toont een gewelidige commitment naar de sport en voor mij is het team uit Enstone onlosmakelijk verbonden met de naam Renault.

  2025: We hebben met Nissan een topteam in wording. Met James Key willen we in 2030 voor de wereldtitel gaan vechten!

  Team Enstone onder beheer van Renault/Alpine is gewoon niet daadkrachtig en kan dan ook net zo goed een "tot we weer een paar jaar stoppen" plan op gaan stellen.

Het gaat gewoon nooit gebeuren. De mentaliteit ontbreekt daar om het tot een winnend concept te maken.

  De commitment hebben ze zeker. Een van de meest trouwe merken uit de F1.
  
  Ik betwijfel alleen of zij de commitment hebben om het onderste uit de kan te halen. En ik denk persoonlijk niet dat dat perse budget gerelateerd is.
  
  Ze hebben jarenlang lopen aanmodderen met deze motor formule. Te weinig vermogen en zeer onbetrouwbaar. Ook in het v8 tijdperk was de Renault de zwakste motor van het stel.

Tegen die tijd hebben ze het niveau van RB van dit jaar wel gehaald maar zijn de andere topteams aan de horizon vertrokken en 2026 moet alles weer opnieuw ach, ach wat is het toch moeilijk in het F1 leven waren ze er maar nooit aan begonnen.
