Allison gaat niet mee in zitpositie-kritiek Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton kende dit jaar een lastige start van het seizoen. De Britse Mercedes-coureur voelde zich niet op zijn gemak in de auto en stelde dat hij te ver naar voren zit. Bij Mercedes hebben ze deze klachten onderzocht en volgens James Allison is de zitpositie niet de oorzaak van de problemen van Hamilton.

Mercedes begon het huidige seizoen op een zeer tegenvallende wijze. In Monaco introduceerde men echter een groot updatepakket met onder meer nieuwe sidepods, sindsdien gaat het iets beter met het Duitse team. Zevenvoudig wereldkampioen Hamilton had het zwaar en dacht dat zijn problemen werden veroorzaakt door zijn zitpositie. Volgens hem zit de cockpit te ver naar voren en te dicht op de voorwielen.

Zitpositie

James Allison werd tijdens het seizoen teruggehaald als technisch directeur. Hij ging op onderzoek uit en stelt in gesprek met Auto, Motor und Sport dat de klachten van Hamilton niet te maken hebben met de zitpositie: "Lewis is niet blij met de wegligging van de auto. Hij zit op een andere positie in de auto dan voorheen. Ik denk niet dat deze twee zaken met elkaar te maken hebben. Ik heb er met Lewis over gesproken. Ik denk niet dat de zitpositie een grote rol speelt bij de problemen die hij voelt."

Rondetijd

Allison neemt de klachten van Hamilton wel zeer serieus. Het technische kopstuk is van mening dat het verbeteren van de rondetijden het allerbelangrijkste is op het moment. Hij legt deze redenatie uit: "Lewis heeft volledig gelijk met zijn kritiek op de wegligging van de auto. Het is aan ons om dat te fixen, want dat draait om de rondetijden. Als we de zitpositie aanpassen, dan heeft dat allerlei redenen en doen we dat niet alleen omdat we dan de problemen van Lewis kunnen oplossen."

Dat de coureur zo comfortabel mogelijk in de auto zit en daardoor met meer vertrouwen rijdt lijkt mij een plausibele reden, zolang het niet ten koste van de performance van de auto op zich gaat natuurlijk...

Allison ziet kritiek Lewis op zitpositie niet zitten; "Het zit hem blijkbaar hoog, maar als alles meezit en Lewis niet klemzit en dus normaal kan blijven zitten, zonder het gevoel op eieren te zitten en wij qua updates niet zitten te suffen, dan gaan we gewoon weer races winnen. Dus ik zit er niet echt mee" ;-)

Ik denk niet dat Lewis zit te wachten op zo een reactie van James, ik zou hem counteren met 'hey James!! Heb je Alisonder de auto gekeken van die van Red Bull?... ik voel toch waar het probleem voor mijzelf zit toch?
Nu niet zitten bakkeleien over mijn zitpositie hè, volgend jaar wil ik onder de achtervleugel zitten!!

Hij moet gewoon al grijpend naar z'n rug moeizaam uit de auto klimmen, dan komt het wel goed.

Ik ben geen coureur, maar hoe verder je naar voren zit, hoe minder nauwkeurig je voelt wat de achterkant doet lijkt me. Hoeveel verschil dat maakt? Daar moet je coureur voor zijn. Lijkt me dan ook verstandig om in dit geval naar de coureur te luisteren.

  Er wordt een heel vrije vertaling gegeven volgens mij. Dat probleem van Hamilton over de zitpositie gaat niet over de wegligging.

  Van wat ik eruit begrijp is dat Hamilton hier een verband tussen ziet en James zegt dat dat niet kan kloppen, maar er gaat wel eens wat "lost in translation" inderdaad.

Hij zijn twee losse dingen. Dat de specifieke wegliggingsproblemen spelen en Hamilton vindt dat hoi te ver naar voren zit wil niet zeggen dat ze beiden in het verlengde ban elkaar liggen. Ik heb Hamilton ook nergens horen vertellen dat dit soort de zitpositie komt. Het gaat om het natuurlijk kunnen besturen waarbij je een groter deel van de auto voor je hebt.

De wegliggingsproblemen los je met een aangepaste stuurpositie niet op. En als je die wegliggingsproblemen oplost, dan is de zitpositie nog steeds niet ideaal.
