Wat gebeurde er tijdens de Oostenrijkse kwalificatie?

Gisteren werden op de Red Bull Ring in Spielberg de eerste vrije training en de kwalificatie verreden. De eerste sessies van het sprintweekend zaten bomvol spektakel en zeer opvallende momenten. Er gebeurde genoeg en GPToday.net zet dan ook een aantal van de opvallendste momenten op een rijtje.

Track Limits

De hoofdrolspeler in de Oostenrijkse kwalificatie was geen coureur, maar een regel. Er werden namelijk enorm veel rondetijden verwijderd vanwege het overschrijden van de track limits. In totaal werden er 47 rondetijden verwijderd door de stewards. Deze regelgeving kostte Sergio Perez een plekje in Q3 en hij was zeker niet de enige coureur die hierdoor werd gehinderd. De regels zijn duidelijk, maar in Oostenrijk leek er geen middenweg te zijn. Zelfs bij twijfel werden er tijden verwijderd en soms duurde het bijna vijf minuten voordat dit met de buitenwereld werd gecommuniceerd. Het belooft veel voor de Sprint Shootout van later vanmiddag.

Updates

De teams van McLaren en Ferrari introduceerden gisteren een groot updatepakket. Beide teams kwamen met veel nieuwe onderdelen en konden deze alleen maar uittesten tijdens de eerste vrije training. Beide teams lijken een grote stap te hebben gezet. Bij McLaren reed alleen Lando Norris met de updates en hij noteerde prompt de vierde tijd in de kwalificatie. De Ferrari's waren ook razendsnel en noteerden de tweede en de derde tijd. Het verschil met polesitter Max Verstappen was ook minimaal.

De Vries

Nyck de Vries zakte in Oostenrijk wederom door de ondergrens. De Nederlandse AlphaTauri-coureur kreeg deze week nogmaals te horen dat hij toch echt moest gaan presteren. Helmut Marko deelde kritische woorden van Christian Horner over De Vries. De Nederlander gaf aan dat hij op de baan zou antwoorden, maar met een twintigste tijd heeft hij dat niet gedaan. De Vries moet nu echt gaat presteren, want in Oostenrijk gingen er geruchten rond over een mogelijke vroegtijdige exit bij AlphaTauri.

Wat gebeurde er tijdens de Oostenrijkse kwalificatie?

Ik weet dat niet. Maar ik weet wel dat volgens deze s i t e en de GP v Austri calender er om 12 uur een VT2 is gepland die de sprint kwali vervangt.
Noem het baar geen breaking, want logisch na al die klachten over track limits. FIA handelt weer snel.
