Albon met mixed feelings na P8 in kwalificatie: ''Grappig dat je in Q3 eindigt en teleurgesteld bent''

Het team van Williams is vaak in de achterste regionen te vinden, maar was vanaf de vrijdag steevast in de top drie te vinden dankzij de stuurmanskunsten van Alexander Albon. De Thai hoopte deze lijn door te trekken in de kwalificatie, enkel kwam niet verder dan P8. Toch was er bij de voormalig Red Bull-coureur teleurstelling te bespeuren ondanks dit knappe resultaat.

''Het is een geweldig weekend geweest, maar het is grappig als je in Q3 eindigt, met P8 en teleurgesteld bent'', zei Albon na de kwalificatie. ''We moeten realistisch zijn, maar het is tot nu toe geweldig geweest. In de kwalificatie verliep de sessie vrij vlot, maar naarmate de baan opdroogde, namen de bochtsnelheden toe en kwam de baan op gang.''

Op het einde kon Albon het tempo van de voorste niet meer volgen en gaf daarvoor een plausibele verklaring. ''We begonnen behoorlijk wat degradatie te krijgen tijdens de ronde, zelfs vooraan, dus we moeten weggaan en dat begrijpen, maar tegen de tijd dat ik in Q3 kwam, worstelde ik een beetje met die gecombineerde factoren.''

De Thai merkte op dat de Williams het meteen voor mekaar had in SIlverstone.
''Sinds het begin van het weekend zitten we er echt bovenop en ik kwam heel snel in het ritme en paste me goed aan de veranderingen aan, dus we gingen echt goed van start.''

"Ik denk dat we zijn geëindigd wat we hadden verwacht, maar ik denk dat als je ons zou vertellen dat we hier aan het begin van het weekend zouden zijn, we je niet zouden geloven'', sloot Albon af.

  Eens. De Williams heeft een uitstekende rechtelijnsnelheid, en blijft lekker aan het asfalt plakken in de combinaties van hoge snelheidsbochten. En Albon kan daarbij erg goed overweg met die auto. Ik snap zijn teleurstelling zelfs wel. In de VT’s deed Williams het heel erg goed. Gaf hoop op meer dan P8.
