Audi legt autosportprojecten stil voor volledige Formule 1-focus

Vorig jaar maakte Audi bekend dat ze vanaf 2026 gaan deelnemen aan de Formule 1. Op de achtergrond zijn de voorbereidingen in volle gang en alles moet daarvoor wijken. De autosporttak van Audi draait de geldkraan naar andere klassen helemaal dicht en focust zich volledig op de Formule 1.

In 2026 gaan er nieuwe motorreglementen gelden in de koningsklasse van de autosport. Audi toonde interesse in deze regels en maakte in 2022 tijdens het Belgische Grand Prix-weekend bekend dat ze gaan deelnemen aan de Formule 1. Ze gaan vanaf 2026 samenwerken met het team van Sauber. De Zwitserse renstal wordt verantwoordelijk voor het chassis en Audi focust zich op de krachtbronnen, wel wordt het een fabrieksteam.

Audi is op de achtergrond hard bezig met de voorbereidingen. Ze hebben daarvoor een drastische beslissing genomen. Motorsport Magazin meldt dat Audi Motorsport-baas Rolf Michl tijdens de bestuursvergadering van Audi heeft laten weten dat de grote projecten niet langer worden gefinancierd door het merk, ze blijven wel technische ondersteuning geven aan klantenteams. In de praktijk betekent dit dat er geen geld meer gaat naar de enduranceracerij en de DTM. Na 2024 wordt ook het Dakar-project stopgezet. Hierdoor kan men zich volledig focussen op de Formule 1.

    Het is toch wel een drastische beslissing met grote gevolgen voor het GT en Endurance veld.
    En voor pakweg een 20 -tal professionele racers die opzoek moeten gaan naar een nieuwe competitie of werkgever. Ergens verwacht ik wel dat Porsche, dat het F1 pad voor nu opgaf, hier wel alternatieven gaat aanbieden. Maar Audi ademt toch ook heel wat historiek en succes in deze raceclasses.

    Benieuwd wat hun F1 jaren zullen brengen. Dat dan weer wel!

      Het is in die zin erg slim omdat ze nu echt alle resources kunnen aanwenden. Ze zijn nu absoluut nog niet gebonden door de cap.

      Gelukkig is het niet mijn ontslag als het F1 project mislukt en de aandeelhouders boos zijn.

      Ik lees net dat Lambo een Imsa Lmdh auto ofzo heeft gepresenteerd.

      Met 2 van die dure wec/imsa programmas is t van VW ook wel logisch om dan Audi hun GT programma te laten sluiten.

    Sit vind ik wel jammer, maar ik snap ze natuurlijk wel. Ik denk ook dat Audi direct succesvol gaat zijn in het eerste jaar, ze hebben jarenlange ervaring op gebied van motoren en ook met aerodynamisch vlak.
