Vettel lijkt honger voor deelname in racerij maar niet te kunnen stillen

Afgelopen weekend stond het legendarische Goodwood Festival of Speed weer op de kalender. Het racefestijn in het karakteristieke Engelse landschap wist het publiek zoals gewoonlijk weer op een waar feest te trakteren. Ook viervoudig wereldkampioen Sebastian Vettel was aanwezig, die na zijn gescheur in de beroemde FW14B-auto van Nigel Mansell het een en ander over zijn toekomst te zeggen had.

Het Goodwood Festival of Speed was weer een groot plezier voor het enthousiaste publiek. Traditiegetrouw wisselden oude en nieuwe voertuigen uit de race- én automotivewereld van plaats op het korte stuk asfalt in Zuid-Engeland, waarbij bolides zoals bijvoorbeeld de Jaguar Mk. 1, Michael Schumacher's Mercedes W02-openwielbolide en nog veel meer door de toeschouwers te zien waren.

En ook Sebastian Vettel was op Goodwood aanwezig. De viervoudig F1-wereldkampioen nam plaats in zijn FW14B-auto, de F1-wagen waar Nigel Mansell in 1992 de wereldtitel behaalde. De Duitser verkeerde zoals gewoonlijk in een goed humeur, en naast zijn spectaculaire show op de baan, stond Vettel ernaast ook nog even in de schijnwerpers.

Op de vraag van F1-analist Karun Chandhok of Vettel de Formule 1-races op de voet volgt, antwoordt hij: "Ik volg de races, maar zonder popcorn", grapt Vettel. "Je zou mij zeker een fan kunnen noemen. Ik kan het alleen niet laten om tijdens de races mee te praten, ik hoop niet dat mijn vrouw dat erg vindt."

Toevoegend kan Vettel het niet laten om zijn toekomst te bespreken. "Ik hou ervan om mijzelf te blijven uitdagen. Ik heb de volgende uitdaging echter nog niet gevonden. Ik weet nog niet van het volgende hoofdstuk voor mij inhoudt. Ik geef om de wereld en wil graag mijn stem blijven gebruiken om positieve veranderingen teweeg te brengen, en dit weekend valt daar zeker onder. Ik hoop dat er nog meer van dit soort kansen aan de horizon verschijnen."

"De tijd (sinds pensionering van de Formule 1) tikt snel voorbij. Het (honger om actief te zijn) begint weer een beetje te jeuken. Ik hoop dat deze ervaring (Goodwood) mijn honger weer een klein beetje kan stillen. Te zijner tijd moet ik weer iets gaan vinden wat mij uitdaagt", concludeert Vettel.

Die gaat straks samen met Max, en Fernando rijden bij verstappen racing sponsort by redbull in het endurance kampioenschap met de redbull hypercar die ze aan het maken zijn.

  Ik vind alle combinaties leuk. Alleen is vettel niet practisch. Zie het al voor me na de overwinning. Vettel steekt dan zijn vingertje op en ..... breekt hem op de voorruit.
  
  Ik zou geen issue hebben met Leclerc er nog bij.
  
  Mogelijk kunnen ze een team van 2 auto's doen. Norris, Alonso, Vettel, Hamilton, Kimi, Leclerc, Verstappen.
