Sainz ziet verbetering na vrijdag met twee gezichten

Carlos Sainz kende gisteren een dag met twee gezichten. De Ferrari-coureur spinde in de eerste sessie voor de Grand Prix van Hongarije im de stromende regen, terwijl in de tweede training de Spanjaard steeds meer de smaak te pakken kreeg.

Sainz blikte terug en zei op de website van de Scuderia het volgende: "Het was een vreemde vrijdag: VT1 werd beïnvloed door de regen en in VT2 moesten we rekening houden met het nieuwe bandenformat dat we dit weekend gaan draaien."

Een kleine opfriscurs: elk team neemt een maximaal aantal setjes mee voor een raceweekend. De renstallen bepalen zelf binnen de marge hoeveel zacht, medium of hard.

In het nieuwe format is het verplicht om tijdens de kwalificatie te rijden met hard (Q1), medium (Q2) en soft (Q3). En dat zorgt voor een andere dimensie in bandentactiek.

Terug naar Sainz. Voor de Ferrari-coureur had VT2 een goed gevoel in de auto, echter wel ruimte voor verbetering. "Op de korte termijn had ik nogal wat verkeer met de rijders die veel brandstof verbruikten, terwijl ik me op de lange termijn een beetje beter voelde, zelfs als we niet al te veel ronden reden. Over het algemeen is er marge voor verbetering zaterdag, dus we gaan er meteen mee aan de slag."
