Hamilton ziet sterk resultaat bij kwalificatie als lichtpuntje van Hongaars Grand Prix-weekend

Na de kwalificatie voor de Grand Prix van Hongarije afgelopen zaterdag voelde zevenvoudig wereldkampioen Lewis Hamilton zich in de wolken, maar bij de race op zondag heeft de Mercedes-coureur er toch hele andere emoties aan overgehouden. Hamilton meent dat zijn sterke kwalificatie tenietgedaan werd doordat Red Bull en McLaren tijdens de Grand Prix simpelweg te snel waren.

Met een onderling van drie duizendsten (!) van een seconde wist Lewis Hamilton afgelopen weekend op de Hungaroring naar de snelste tijd te rijden. De F1-veteraan versloeg hiermee regerend wereldkampioen Max Verstappen, die vooraf de kwalificatiesessie als dé favoriet voor pole position werd gezien.

"Dit is voor het eerst in meer dan een jaar dat ik mij zo goed heb gevoeld", begon Hamilton na zijn sterke kwalificatie. "Volgens mij was ik gisteren (zaterdag) op mijn best."

Pole-man Hamilton deed met zijn uitstekende optreden op de zaterdag zeer goede zaken voor een goed resultaat op de zondag, maar na de eerste ronde viel de zevenvoudig wereldkampioen al terug naar P4, de positie van waaruit hij uiteindelijk over de finishstreep reed.

Voor de vele Hamilton-fans was de eerste ronde van de Hongaarse Grand Prix een grote teleurstelling, maar volgens de Mercedes-coureur was zijn verlies van posities sowieso onvermijdbaar: "Vanochtend (voordat de race begon) werd mij al verteld dat ik minstens vijf tienden per seconde langzamer zou zijn dan Red Bull. We wisten dat we niet met Max (Verstappen) konden vechten, maar toch hoopten we op een goed duel met de McLarens. Helaas waren die ook te snel voor ons."

"In de eerste twee stints waren we gewoon te langzaam. De balans klopte niet en de auto was te langzaam. Maar later in de race verbeterde die balans wel, en kon ik meer druk (op Pérez) zetten. Helaas kwam dat te laat", concludeert Hamilton.

Na 1,5 jaar toch weer een prijs gepakt! De Pirelli band met eigen handtekening. Het is maar goed dat deze niet op een podium werd uitgereikt anders had nummer drie Norris dat ding wel aan gort geslagen.

Ik ben heel benieuwd hoe het uitpakt komend weekend. Volgens Marko is de RB19 meer in zijn element op snellere circuits.

  Aan het weerbericht te zien hoop ik gewoon dat het allemaal doorgaat. Met de accidenten in Eau Rouge zie ik F1 geen risico's te nemen . . . Ben zelf enkel op vrijdag aanwezig ter plaatse voor de vrije training en de kwalificatie.

  Thx!! Ik ben op uitnodiging via een zakelijk contact in de paddock en dat soort beleving is altijd iets apart. Jammer dat het geen jaarlijkse gewoonte is maar daar wordt zeker aan gewerkt hahaha!
  
  Deze keer moest ik vooraf oa een Netflix reglement ondertekenen en dat was de laatste keer in Frankrijk (2019) nog niet het geval.... ik ga me dus ook daar voorbeeldig gedragen :-D
