'Red Bull heeft geen interesse in Mick Schumacher'

Mick Schumacher heeft nog steeds een toekomst in de Formule 1 volgens AlphaTauri-teambaas Franz Tost. De teammanager van het Italiaanse team gaat aan het einde van het jaar met pensioen, drong er bij Red Bull sterk op aan om de ontslagen Haas-coureur voor 2023 te contracteren - maar werd overruled.

Hij vertelt daarover: "Ik kwam op voor Mick. Hij had Formule 1-ervaring en was nog jong. Dat was niet het geval bij Nyck de Vries."

De 67-jarige Tost zei dat Red Bull ervoor koos om de Nederlander de Vries te contracteren - die vervolgens na slechts 10 races werd gedumpt - omdat 'er op dat moment niemand anders was'. Maar toen het tijd werd om de Vries te vervangen, promoveerde Red Bull deze keer Daniel Ricciardo terug in de race.

Tost geeft toe dat er in de Red Bull-familie voorlopig geen plaats zal zijn voor Schumacher. "We zijn bezetEr komen een paar jonge coureurs aan, een paar talenten uit de Red Bull-school. We zullen zeker op hen terugvallen."

Mercedes een goede plek

Wat de 24-jarige Schumacher betreft, benadrukt Tost - die nauwe historische banden heeft met de familie Schumacher - dat hij hem niet heeft opgegeven. Hij denkt echter dat de Duitser in goede handen is bij Mercedes en Toto Wolff.

"Toto Wolff heeft super goede connecties. Ik denk dat hij er alles aan zal doen om ervoor te zorgen dat Mick vroeg of laat een stoeltje krijgt. Het maakt niet uit bij welk team, als de kans zich voordoet, moet hij die grijpen. Hij zal niet lang de kans krijgen om te kiezen."

Zelden is een coureur die zo weinig heeft laten zien zo veel gehyped. Zelfs door mensen van wie je mag verwachten dat ze er wel kijk op hebben....

  Inderdaad, maar in dit specifieke geval laat Tost zijn professionaliteit en objectiviteit varen vanwege zijn "nauwe historische banden met de familie Schumacher" (Ralf) en niet voor het eerst...

  Hij is ook veel te lief, heeft niet het karakter van zijn vader. Als coureur moet je op de baan gewoon een klootzak zijn. Hij blijft ook altijd de zoon van..... Bij Max is dat niet meer het geval. Het is nu Jos Verstappen de vader van de formule 1 kampioen Max Verstappen.

Mick moet in andere klasse gaan rijden, niet F1 waardig, Toto moet dat toch ook wel zien, of mis ik wat.

  Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff is zeer tevreden over de diensten van Schumacher. De Oostenrijkse teambaas gunt zijn derde coureur een zitje en spreekt zich uit bij de Duitse tak van Sky Sports:
  "Het is een lastige situatie. We zitten zelf vol, maar ik gun hem het zitje heel erg. Hij verdient dat gewoon. De situatie ziet er in 2024 ongunstig uit, maar in 2025 zullen er wel een paar deuren open gaan. We moeten zien hoe de pace bij Williams zal zijn, maar de situatie is niet duidelijk."

Ik denk dat Mick het niet slechter had gedaan dan Nyck, maar ik vind wel dat RB trouw moet blijven aan hun eigen programma en niet coureurs van buitenaf moet voortrekken. Zeker niet als ze zelf talenten hebben en de aangetrokken krachten niet geweldig zijn en daar bedoel ik Nyck mee. Ik denk dat Mick komend jaar bij Williams zal instappen, mar het is de vraag hoeveel moeite Toto voor hem wil doen.

Ik sta versteld van de rammelende argumentatie van Tost. Of een coureur wel of geen ervaring heeft is bij AT/Toro nooit een issue geweest. Zij en Williams grossieren in debutanten. En leeftijd is maar een nummer volgens Alonso (en vele anderen).
Je moet kijken wat voor soort coureur je wilt en of de coureur in het profiel past. De Vries is snel maar vooral iemand van de lange aanloop. Dat heeft weinig met Tost argumentatie te maken. Omgekeerd, zijn fraaie debuut uit 2022 was zwaar vertekend, en had ook geen leidraad moeten zijn.
Kortom, dat AT/RB management handelt maar als een kip zonder kop, en gaat graag met de eer strijken als het goed uitpakt, en wast de handen in onschuld als het niet goed loopt.
