FE-baas vindt eigen klasse veel boeiender dan F1

CEO van de Formula E Jeff Dodds vindt de Formule 1 "niet bijzonder spannend" en vindt zijn eigen elektrische serie op dit moment boeiender naar te kijken dan de koningsklasse.

"Ik heb de Hongaarse Grand Prix gezien toen ik op vakantie was", zei hij tegen de Daily Mirror. "Ik heb de eerste vijf of zes minuten ervan bekeken, vertelde mijn kinderen toen dat ik ging zwemmen en vertelde hen dat ik over 40 minuten terug zou zijn, omdat ik dacht dat er bijna niets zou zijn veranderd, en ik had gelijk."

Dodd vervolgt: "Op dit moment is het geen spannend seizoen voor de Formule 1. Dat is het gewoon niet”, voegde Dodds eraan toe. "Ik zeg alleen wat elk ander team in de Formule 1 zegt en wat iedereen in de sport zegt: het is niet bijzonder spannend."

Hoewel de FE-baas op dit moment F1 ontzettend saai vindt, houdt hij een zwak voor de koningsklasse. "Ik hou van autosport, ik ben opgegroeid met autosport, ik werkte voor Honda toen ze een Formule 1-team hadden. Ik hou van Formule 1."

F1 belangrijke spil

Dodd ziet dat de Formule 1 de belangrijkste plek inneemt en zorgt dat de interesse in andere klasses, zoals de Formule E, daarvan profiteert. Maar dan moet er wel wat aan gebeuren aan de voorspelbare races volgens de CEO.

"Een gezonde Formule 1 is geweldig voor alle autosport, dus een levendige, opwindende Formule 1 brengt nieuwe fans, nieuwe opwinding, nieuwe gesprekken in het hele ecosysteem van de autosport, dus dat is goed voor ons."

Volgens de FE-baas kunnen beide klasses prima naast elkaar bestaan zonder in elkaars vaarwater te komen.

"De Formule 1 hoeft niet te verliezen om te winnen, en wij hoeven niet te winnen om te verliezen, er is ruimte in dit ecosysteem in de autosport voor twee echt succesvolle, echt verschillende kampioenschappen."

"We kunnen prima naast elkaar bestaan, we komen uit iets verschillende plaatsen, maar ik ga iedereen vertellen wat er nu geweldig is aan de Formule E, en een van die dingen is dat we echt opwindende races leveren in een tijd dat de F1 dat niet heeft. Dat is een feit.

  Deze uitspraak is al van een tijdje terug, maar hoewel er veel mis is met FE... heeft het ook goede aspecten.
  
  1 daarvan is de powertrain regel. Een klantenteam kan ook echt winnen van de fabrieksteams en dus meer stoeltjes met kansen.
  
  De tijd dat kleinere fabrikanten hier kans hebben is wel voorbij. Mahindra en Nio liggen steevast onderaan en kunnen alleen punten scoren als de nissans/jaguars/porsches/DS-Maserati's pech hebben.
  
  Gelukkig voor hen hebben deze vaak pech door chaotische races met een soort touringcar racestijl.

Ik hou ook van autosport, maar niet van de Formula E, dat is toch net even anders.

  Begrijp ik wel. Het heeft veel aspecten die tegen traditionele klasses in gaan. Ik houd van veel variatie en dus kijk ik er wel na.
  
  Maar ik kijk dan ook naar rallycross, Indycar, F1, Wec (weer een beetje), motogp, motorcross... en als er in de winter niks raced qua voertuigen zelfs snowboardcross.
  
  Ik vind het juist saai als klasses hetzelfde zijn zoals superformula en F2/F3/F4/super2000 ofzo in australie. DTM vind ik bijvoorbeeld ook maar niks vandaag de dag.

Soms is een amateurvoetbalwedstrijd ook veel spannender dan een CL-duel.
Nou en?
De kwaliteit is waarvoor mensen daar een CL wedstrijd kijken, niet of FC de Prutsers wel of niet in het allerlaatste duel van het seizoen kampioen kan worden van de 5e klasse Oost regionaal.
Daarvoor gaan tante Jo en ome Joop naar het lokale sportpark, en niet naar Wembley.

De opmerking dat F1 niet spannend is heeft alleen betrekking op wie er dit jaar continue op P1 rijdt. Eens daarmee.
Maar wat daarachter gebeurt, dus bij 19/20e deel van het startveld, is wel degelijk spannend.

Met alle respect hoor, maar "naast elkaar kunnen bestaan" impliceert twee gelijkwaardige raceklasses en daar is m.i.. geen enkele sprake van.

Wil iemand de beste man vertellen dat pure racerij niet enkel draait om spanning en sensatie. En dat mensen die pure racerij kunnen waarderen, juist de Formule E een clowns show vinden met al die kunstmatige trucjes om het racen aldaar spannend te maken?

  Oke attackmode, maar dat is als DRS of de puddingbanden van F1.
  
  Fanboost is sinds dit jaar eindelijk weg. Per race de Kwh veranderen is wel raar... dat is alsof je in monaco met 60 liter mag rijden en in Spa met 100 liter.
  
  Drs vind ik persoonlijk ook maar een domme gimmick. Het is namelijk niet te verdedigen zoals bijvoorbeeld wel push to pass en het is ook niet vrij inzetbaar.
  
  Ik zou DRS bijvoorbeeld beter vinden als dit bijvoorbeeld 25% van de ronden naar vrije keuze gebruikt kan worden. De ene coureur kan m halverwege de bocht al openzetten en de ander durft t pas 100 meter na de bocht.

Spec series zijn per definitie vaak veel spannender, omdat de auto's nagenoeg gelijk zijn.. Dat is bij de F1 nooit zo geweest en zal ook nooit gebeuren.. F1 is namelijk ook een constructeurs kampioenschap en geen spec series..

Preken voor eigen parachie.
Klopt dat de FE niet voorspelbaar is, maar ik wordt toch niet echt warm van het stofzuigergeluid door veel te nauwe straten, waar dan uiteindelijk 1 plek is waar ze kunnen inhalen of als iemand een boost ophaalt op het verkeerde moment. Nee, ik ben nog geen fan van de FE
