Hulkenberg: Oplossing voor 'complexe' problemen Haas-auto 'ligt niet voor het oprapen'

Nico Hulkenberg denkt dat het nog wel even kan duren voordat zijn team een oplossing heeft bedacht voor de problemen die de racepace van de VF23-bolide momenteel nekt. De openwielbolide weet in de handen van de Duitse F1-veteraan tijdens de kwalificaties prima te presteren, maar is in racetrim lang niet zo sterk.

In de eerste seizoenshelft heeft Nico Hulkenberg goede resultaten weten te behalen. De 35-jarige wist de F1-wereld meerdere malen te verrassen door zijn Haas formulewagen naar Q3 te bewegen, en met een zevende eindstek in de Australische Grand Prix heeft hij belangrijke punten voor zijn renstal binnengesleept.

Tijdens de kwalificatiesessies weet Hulkenberg geregeld door naar de slotfase te komen, maar tijdens de Grands Prix loopt het echter nog niet geheel van een leien dakje. De VF23-auto van het Amerikaanse Haas kampt namelijk met een complex probleem dat voornamelijk te veel van het Pirelli-rubber vergt. Hulkenberg denkt dat de equipe onder leiding van Guenther Steiner een langdurig proces moet ondergaan om de problemen op te lossen.

"Volgens mij snappen we waar het vandaan komt en hoe het ontstaat. Maar om het probleem op te kunnen lossen gaat niet zomaar. De sleutel ligt niet voor het oprapen, het is meer complex dan dat. Ik denk dat we de situatie dit jaar nog kunnen verbeteren. In hoeverre wij daarin zullen slagen is nog een kwestie van afwachten. Het ligt in onze handen, en wij moeten bewijzen dat we het kunnen. Maar het is iets voor de lange termijn."

Hulkenberg laat weten maar al te graag het Grand Prix-weekend in Spa achter zich te willen laten: "Dit circuit heeft de zwakheden van onze auto heel erg blootgesteld. Vandaar dat we bij geen enkele sessie competitief waren. Dus we hebben nog genoeg werk aan de winkel", concludeert Hulkenberg.

Wel mooi om te zien dat bij het Haas profiel (hier links van het verhaal) de foto is aangepast en nu eindelijk het Rich Energy exemplaar is vervangen door een recenter model.
