Webber apetrots: "Piastri heeft vijftien maanden niet geracet"

Oscar Piastri is tot nu toe de beste debutant van het huidige Formule 1-seizoen. De jonge Australiër maakt veel indruk en kan zijn McLaren-teamgenoot Lando Norris voorlopig aardig bijhouden. Zijn manager oud-coureur Mark Webber is enorm trots op zijn pupil, hij wijst vooral op het raceloze jaar dat Piastri achter de rug heeft.

Piastri staat momenteel op de elfde plaats in het wereldkampioenschap met 34 WK-punten achter zijn naam, zijn teamgenoot Lando Norris staat op de achtste plaats. Vooral in de laatste paar races voor de zomerstop maakte Piastri veel indruk, in de Belgische Sprint schitterde hij en finishte hij als tweede achter sprintwinnaar Max Verstappen. De jonge Australische coureur ontvangt dan ook veel lof.

Piastri's manager Mark Webber is enorm te spreken over de resultaten van zijn jonge pupil. De oud-coureur wijst naar het nabije verleden van Piastri en spreekt zich hierover uit bij de media-afdeling van de Formule 1: "Je vergeet al snel dat Oscar vorig jaar niet heeft geracet. Ik denk dat het aan het begin van het jaar tijd kostte. Het is zijn eerste keer in de Formule 1, het is niet zo dat hij terugkeert van een pauze. Hij heeft vijftien maanden niet gereden en hij had hiervoor nog nooit geracet in de Formule 1."

    Aan de ene kant een jaar niet geracet, aan de andere kant een jaar lang wel de nodige testkilometers mogen maken in een F1 bolide met dank aan Alpine. Dat hij 15 maanden niet gereden heeft klopt dus niet.

      Hij heeft wel 15 maanden niet competitief geracet.

      Racen is wat anders dan testen toch een ander soort druk.

      Badoer had 10000en km getest toen hij bij Ferrari mocht invallen in 2009, dan zie je direct wat het belangrijkste is.

    Constant en goed
    Zo zou ik zijn prille begin omschrijven.
    Met Mark als mentor , heeft hij een goede basis om een grote kampioen te worden , nu nog een betrouwbare snelle wagen, en de McLaren ‘s zijn waardige tegegenstanders . Kijk al uit naar de 2 de seizoens helft .

      Aan deze jongen krijgt Norris een hele kluif als hij volgend jaar net zo snel is als Norris dan zit hij misschien nog sneller in een top team als verwacht en word Norris een Ric.

    Het zag er allemaal zeer beloved uit voor F1, wat hij nu laat zien is toch echt wel uitstekend het zou mijn niet verbazen als we hier met een toekomstig F1 kampioen te maken hebben!
