Ecclestone: "Interesse NewsCorp in Formule 1-rechten is bekoeld"

De belangstelling van Rupert Murdoch en zijn NewsCorp in de overname van de rechten op de Formule 1 van CVC Capital is afgenomen. Die conclusie trekt Bernie Ecclestone tegenover LondonlovesBusiness. NewsCorp is na een eerste afwijzing niet meer terug gekomen, misschien is hun belangstelling bekoeld.

Dat terwijl CVC Capital best bereid is tot een verkoop, mits de prijs juist is. Ecclestone: Als iemand met een respectabel bod langs komt, gaan ze graag het gesprek aan. Er zijn partijen geweest die een bod hebben uitgebracht, maar CVC Capital vond die niet de moeite om mee verder te gaan.

Het is onwaarschijnlijk dat ik zelf de rechten terug koop en ik kan me niet voorstellen dat ik een meerderheidsaandeel neem. CVC wil een bedrag dat zij de Formule 1 waard vinden en ik wil dat niet betalen. Niet dat ik het een onjuiste vraagprijs vind, maar het zou om heel veel geld gaan en daar begin ik op mijn leeftijd niet meer aan.
