Hulkenberg ziet positieve kant aan record voor meeste Grands Prix zonder podium

Als Nico Hulkenberg over zijn bijzondere record praat, is het niet alleen maar frustratie. De Duitse F1-coureur staat momenteel op 193 Grand Prix-starts zonder een podiumresultaat en heeft daarmee met uitstek het record in handen. Maar volgens de Haas-coureur kan er ook juist een positief signaal uit de bizarre statistiek gehaald worden.

Het beste resultaat dat Nico Hulkenberg in de Formule 1 tot nu toe heeft weten te behalen, is een vierde eindplaats. De Duitse F1-veteraan was meerdere malen dichtbij een podiumfinish, maar kon keer op keer niet daadwerkelijk in de top drie eindigen. Met zijn 193 Grand Prix-starts (196 als Melbourne 2013, Spa 2015 en Silverstone 2020 wel meegerekend worden) verkeert de Haas-coureur op een eenzame hoogte, waarbij voormalig coureur Adrian Sutil met 128 starts runner-up is.

Maar op de vraag of Hulkenberg alleen met ergernis en frustratie naar zijn record kijkt, antwoordt hij: "Als je er echt over nadenkt dan is het wel een beetje frustrerend, ja. Maar ik heb nooit een auto gehad die serieus om podiumfinishes kon vechten. Daarentegen heb ik wel goede auto's gehad en daarmee ook kansen gekregen om op het podium te komen, maar die zijn keer op keer vanwege verschillende redenen in het water gevallen."

"Maar om eerlijk te zijn ben ik nog steeds tevreden. Als ik terug op mijn carrière kijk, dan waren er natuurlijk wat dingetjes die ik beter had kunnen doen. Maar ik ben er niet bitter of gefrustreerd over. Ik voel me goed, en later dit seizoen – ergens rond de Mexicaanse Grand Prix – zal ik de 200 racestarts aantikken."

"Maar als ik echt zo slecht zou zijn, dan zou ik nooit 200 Grands Prix lang in de Formule 1 zitten. Dus er zit ook echt wel een positieve kant aan. Ik moet mijn potentie maximaliseren. De kansen die ik vroeger heb gekregen, die liepen helaas niet goed af. Dat was toentertijd natuurlijk heel frustrerend, maar het is wat het is."

We spreken altijd over “gemiste” kansen, maar als we eerlijk zijn was dat ook steeds met een wagen die totaal niet goed genoeg was voor dat podium. Hulk in een winnende wagen zou hij zeker niet slechter hebben gedaan dan een Perez, Sainz of Bottas. En dan hadden we nu gesproken over meervoudi... [Lees verder]

Tja , je kan altijd wel iets positiefs in het negative gaan zoeken.
Toen Hulk werd aangekondigd dacht ik oh nee aub niet he maar ik moet eerlijk bekennen dat hij me toch enigsinds verrast heeft.........in de kwalificaties.

  in dit geval ook terecht. Om voor dit record in aanmerking te komen moest je minimaal 128 F1-wedstrijden gereden hebben, zo ver komen de meesten al niet. Verder stond bv Alonso ook ruim 100 races droog, het kan de beste overkomen. Het is geen record om trots op te zijn, maar ook geen 1 om je voor te schamen.

Als 'onze' Nederlandstalige Duitse F1-vriend ooit het podium behaalt, zal hij ter plekke op de schouders worden genomen.
En als dat de hele ceremonie duurt heeft Hulkenberg nog steeds niet op het podium gestaan...

  Dan krijg je door 1 race meer medelijden met hem dan met de vorige 193.
  Ik zie het trouwens ook gebeuren dat Lando Hulkenberg zijn trofee in 2 mept.

Het knappe van zijn record is dat hij zou goed is dat hij straks gewoon 200 races heeft gereden en nog steeds goed genoeg is voor een stoeltje in de F1. Hij staat bij iedereen goed aangeslagen. Oke, hij is niet de topper geworden die hij leek te gaan hebben als je naar zijn carrière voor de F1 kijkt.

Kortom welke andere coureur heeft het gered om na 200 races zonder podium nog in de F1 mogen rijden, en dat ook nog zonder een paydriver te zijn

  Hulkenberg is net als Nick Heidfeld een eeuwige "wat als" ... Zoveel talent hij soms liet zien, zoveel onhandigheid (soms pech, soms eigenschuld) hangt er achter hem aan. Sleutelmoment voor zijn loopbaan was Sao Paulo 2012... ongekend snel. Bizar snel. Eerst remmen op de witte lijn... Verloor even pace om daarna weer aan te sluiten bij hamilton... Een te haastige inhaalactie waarbij hij zich verkeek op een achterblijver maakte alle kansen kapot... Hamilton had hem nooit weer gezien zonder de slipper op de witte lijn.

Het is maar wat er op je pad komt op het juiste moment…
