Alpine vindt vierde plaats nog steeds reëel doel

Het team van Alpine is bezig met een lastig seizoen in de Formule 1. Achter de schermen rommelt het en er zijn al veel kopstukken ontslagen, terwijl de resultaten op de baan ook flink tegenvallen. Toch heeft men goede hoop, technisch directeur Matt Harman denkt namelijk dat Alpine nog steeds het vierde team kan worden.

Alpine begon het huidige seizoen met torenhoge ambities. De Franse renstal wilde met Esteban Ocon en Pierre Gasly de top aanvallen en richtte de pijlen op de vierde plaats. Het seizoen begon zeer teleurstellend, maar in Monaco boekte Ocon het eerste grote succes met een derde plaats. Daarna vielen de resultaten weer tegen en werden Laurent Rossi, Otmar Szafnauer en Alan Permane ontslagen. Vlak voor de zomerstop eindigde Gasly nog wel als derde in de Belgische sprintrace.

Updates

Technisch directeur Harman denkt nog steeds dat zijn team de doelstelling van dit jaar kan halen. Momenteel staat Alpine zesde in het constructeurskampioenschap met een grote achterstand op nummer vijf McLaren. In gesprek met Auto, Motor und Sport is Harman positief: "We kunnen niet elk weekend grote updates introduceren. Aan het begin van het seizoen kwamen we met veel nieuwe onderdelen. Onze tegenstanders introduceerden dat pas later. Onze derde ontwikkelingsfase begon met de voorvleugel, dat was zichtbaar in Spa met de nieuwe underbody. We hopen hier snel het resultaat van te zien."

Doelstellingen

Harman vertrouwt volledig op deze updates. In Spa waren de resultaten te zien met de derde plaats van Gasly in de Sprint en een achtste plaats van Ocon in de race. Harman wil dan ook de doelstellingen niet afzwakken: "We hebben onze doelen echt niet aangepast. We willen nog steeds het vierde beste team worden en ik zie niet in waarom wij dit doel niet zouden kunnen bereiken."

En daar zit precies het probleem. Het niet willen en kunnen zien waar de problemen bij Renol zitten. Dit komt nooit meer goed. Iedereen daar is doorgedraaid.

En daar zit precies het probleem. Het niet willen en kunnen zien waar de problemen bij Renol zitten. Dit komt nooit meer goed. Iedereen daar is doorgedraaid.

  Staan gewoon 140 punten achter op Ferrari, de nr 4. Tenzij ferrari geen punt meer scoort en alpine elke wedstrijd zich 'gedraagt' als nr 4 moet het toch lukken (kuch)

  Ja denk ik ook wel, ze zijn lekker bezig bij de blauwe Renol. De rijders stralen en schitteren, het team management zit stevig en robuust in het zadel, de motor is beter dan ooit, het geld klotst tegen de plinten op en het spreekwoord “met de Franse slag” is uit de Van Dale geschrapt, opnieuw geïnterpreteerd en betekent in de Van Dale van 2024 zoiets als “op sublieme wijze zover de andere kant opkijken (vrijwel 360 graden) dat je feitelijk weer de goede kant op kijkt.”
  Er schijnen zelfs gesprekken met Lewis te zijn geweest voor een zitje in 2025, zoveel geloof heerst er in de toekomst van het team.
  Moet ik er wel aan toevoegen dat de gesprekken niet veel verder kwamen dan een telefoontje:

Harman is bang voor zijn job, als je bij Alpine pas in de (iets langere) toekomst succes ziet, kun je je bureau leeg maken...
