Vettel denkt niet aan comeback: "Mijn kinderen hebben er recht op dat ik er ben"

Sebastian Vettel geniet momenteel van zijn Formule 1-pensioen. De Duitse viervoudig wereldkampioen nam na afloop van vorig seizoen afscheid van de Formule 1 en laat sindsdien soms zijn gezicht zien in de autosportwereld. Vettel staat nog steeds achter zijn keuze en geeft aan dat hij zijn kinderen meer wil zien.

Vettel kondigde ongeveer een jaar geleden aan dat hij aan het einde van het seizoen ging stoppen met de Formule 1. De Duitser sloot zijn loopbaan af bij Aston Martin en boekte zijn grootste successen in dienst van Red Bull Racing. Vorige maand maakte hij tijdens het Goodwood Festival of Speed zijn eerste meters in klassiek Formule 1-materiaal. Later dit jaar zal hij ook nog een demorun gaan verzorgen in één van zijn kampioensauto's van Red Bull.

Een fulltime comeback zal er voorlopig niet van komen. Vettel denkt aan het milieu en wil er vooral voor zijn gezin zijn. Hij legt zijn keuze uit in het Red Bulletin: "Het lag aan meerdere dingen: de grote hoeveelheid races en alles wat je moet doen om dit werk goed te kunnen uitvoeren. Ik heb daarnaast ook kleine kinderen thuis zitten. De verloren tijd krijg ik niet terug. Om de vraag goed te beantwoorden: ik heb tot het allerlaatste moment van het racen genoten. Ik mis de spanning van de kwalificatie het meest. Maar, mijn kinderen hebben er recht op dat ik er vaker ben voor ze."

Misschien is het beter om geen comeback te maken. Hij was al over zijn top heen toen hij wegging en weinig kans dat hij sneller is geworden. Misschien opgeladen maar verder alleen leuk qua leuke naam erbij.

  Ik zou het leuk vinden mocht hij in een andere klasse (met minder drukke agenda) meedoen. De DTM of WEC bijvoorbeeld. Blijft een leuke kerel en ook al was het F1-vuur tot een waakvlammetje herleid denk ik dat hij best nog mooie dingen kan tonen elders.

  Absoluut! Misschien zelfs Indycar zou mooi zijn. Hij zou daar waarschijnlijk heel goed kunnen scoren ook.

Je hebt een prachtige F1-loopbaan gehad Seb, maar vermoed niet dat een (top)team nog op jouw diensten als coureur zit te wachten.

Off topic.
Vanuit het verleden zeer geinteresseerd in wat de echte top atleet allemaal doet om de top te halen. De echte top moet zo vreselijk mentaal sterk zijn. Om dit dag in dag uit vol te houden is onmenselijk. De F1 atleet uit deze tijd zal vast wat minder kunnen doen. Maar die zijn de helft van de tijd ook nog eens op reis. Talent alleen is niet genoeg. En ik denk dat Vettel ook dit waarschijnlijk niet zo graag meer wil doen. (Heb ik het toch nog een heeeeel klein beetje on topic gemaakt)
