Williams-teambaas Vowles vindt huidige waardering van F1-teams 'niet hoog'

Terwijl de interesse in de Formule 1 maar blijft groeien, zijn een aantal van de tien huidige Formule 1-teams gewaardeerd op een bedrag rond de miljard dollar. Rondom het exorbitante bedrag is veel heisa ontstaan, maar volgens Williams-teambaas is die inschatting van waarde niet overdreven hoog, vooral niet als er naar de andere sportwerelden gekeken wordt.

De afgelopen jaren is de Formule 1 flink blijven groeien. De koningsklasse ziet steeds meer interesse van grote merken en namen om een voet binnen de deur van de topsport te kunnen zetten. Ook zijn steeds meer landen en steden geïnteresseerd om een race te mogen organiseren, terwijl de sport wat kijkcijfers betreft groene cijfers blijft zien.

De waarde van de Formule 1 blijft groeien, en zodoende ook de waarde van de huidige teams, vindt Williams-teambaas James Vowles. Over de kritiek van buitenstaanders dat een bedrag van rond de miljard dollar te hoog zou zijn om een huidig Formule 1-team te waarderen, heeft de Britse topman een duidelijk antwoord:

"Is een bedrag van een miljard dollar voor een F1-team veel? Ik zou zeggen van niet. Het goedkoopste NFL (American Football) team zou zo'n vier miljard kosten, en de duurste zo’n zes miljard. Als je naar onze sport kijkt, dan zijn wij echt zo duur nog niet. Wat dat betreft hebben wij nog flink wat groeiruimte voor ons liggen, aangezien wij als sport door blijven groeien", meent Vowles tegenover Speedcafe.
