Toekomst van Circuit Zandvoort op F1-kalender na 2025 nog niet duidelijk: "FOM is aan zet"

Aankomend weekend zal het weer een groots Hollands feest worden. Midden in de Zandvoortse duinen zal aanstaande zondag de Nederlandse Grand Prix verreden worden, een race dat altijd veel binnen- én buitenlandse interesse weet te genereren. Maar of CM.com Circuit Zandvoort ook in de toekomst een consistent plaatsje op de F1-kalender blijft houden, dat valt nog te bezien. Volgens de directeur van het uitdagende circuit Robert van Overdijk ligt de bal bij het management achter de koningsklasse, namelijk FOM. (Formula One Management)

De anticipatie op een eerste moderne Nederlandse Grand Prix was in 2020 zeer hoog, maar deze werd door de coronapandemie met een jaar uitgesteld. Sinds het daaropvolgende jaar heeft Circuit Zandvoort haar plaatsje op de drukbezette Formule 1-kalender, maar de vraag is, nog voor hoe lang?

Het legendarische circuit heeft momenteel namelijk een contract met de koningsklasse om ook in 2024 en 2025 op de kalender te staan, maar aangezien de topsport vaak jarenlang vooruitkijkt, begint de vraag te rijzen wat de toekomst van CM.com Circuit Zandvoort is voor de daaropvolgende jaren. Volgens directeur Robert van Overdijk is de intentie van zijn kant in ieder geval wel duidelijk; namelijk dat het afwachten is op FOM.

"We praten heel erg veel met FOM. Ik reis best wel vaak mee met het hele circus. We zien ze dus regelmatig, zeker bij de Europese races. Natuurlijk praten we over de periode na 2025, maar het zijn nog geen concrete gesprekken over hoe we het in gaan vullen."

"Uiteindelijk moet FOM eerst de keuze maken hoeveel races ze in Europa willen houden, en welke dat dan zijn. Voor de races die overblijven is dan de vraag of je met een roulatieschema kan gaan werken. Dan kan het één keer per twee of misschien wel drie jaar zijn", meent Van Overdijk over een potentieel afwisselingschema waarbij Zandvoort deel van uit zou kunnen maken. "Uiteindelijk is FOM aan zet. Zodra zij een idee hebben, schuiven wij graag aan om erover mee te praten", concludeert Van Overdijk.

  De enige die dat weet is Max zelf, het is perfect mogelijk dat hij op het einde van het seizoen zegt dat hij ermee stopt. Met de voorsprong die hij nu iedere race heeft maak je mij niet wijs dat hij er momenteel nog plezier in heeft.

  @Gidiron, F1 leeft totaal niet in die landen. Ver voor Max zijn tijd ben ik verschillende keren op Spa geweest. Zelfs is er een jaar geweest dat de kaarten voor zondag met korting werden aangeboden. Was toen nog met Schumacher. Als jet het bezoekersaantal van 100.000 of meer per dag niet haalt dan is tegenwoordig een F1 organiseren niet meer te betalen. Dus als de vele Max fans wegvallen dan halveert dat de inkomsten voor het circuit. Behalve die rijke olie staten. Die lappen dat uit eigen zak.

Zolang Domenicali het voor het zeggen houd zal er over 'n paar jaar geen plaats meer zijn voor Zandvoort.
Dieje hannes gaat liever voor het grote geld in de woestijn en voor de stratenraces.
