'McLaren eist tientallen miljoenen van Palou'

Alex Palou heeft voor een flinke rel in de Amerikaanse Indycar-klasse gezorgd. De Spaanse coureur zou eigenlijk per 2024 voor het team van McLaren rijden, maar enkele weken geleden werd bekend dat hij dit toch niet zag zitten. McLaren sleepte hem vervolgens voor de rechter, nu blijkt dat ze tientallen miljoenen eisen.

Palou zou eigenlijk dit jaar al voor McLaren rijden, maar na een aantal bizarre maanden werd duidelijk dat hij toch voor het team van Chip Ganassi zou blijven rijden. In dienst van Ganassi schittert hij nu in de Indycar en is hij hard op weg naar de titel. Enkele weken geleden werd bekend dat hij zijn contract bij McLaren voor 2024 niet wil uitdienen. McLaren en Palou's toenmalige management waren woest en namen afstand van hem.

Daarna werd bekend dat McLaren heeft besloten om Palou en het moederbedrijf van Chip Ganassi Racing voor een Britse rechter te slepen. Wat ze precies willen bereiken was in eerste instantie niet bekend. Volgens Indystar eist McLaren nu tussen de 20 en 30 miljoen dollar van Palou. Volgens de renstal is dit ongeveer de schade die McLaren hierdoor heeft opgelopen. Dit zou gaan over salaris en Formule 1-tests en zijn vrije training voor McLaren in Austin vorig jaar.
