Wolff tevreden met de vrijdag: "Dit geeft zeker vertrouwen"

In de schaduw van de oranjegekte op de tribunes en de mogelijke blessure van Daniel Ricciardo, kende het team van Mercedes een goede vrijdag. Lewis Hamilton reed meerdere snelle tijden en was in de tweede vrije training slechts 0,308 seconden langzamer dan Lando Norris. Toto Wolff was zeer tevreden met de eerste dag.

Mercedes heeft een lastige eerste seizoenshelft achter de rug waarin ze veel snelheid te kort kwamen. De Duitse renstal kwam daarna met nieuwe updates in Monaco en introduceerde ook vandaag weer meerdere nieuwe onderdelen in Zandvoort. Het leek erop dat de updates het goed deden, want Lewis Hamilton kon in beide vrije trainingen goed meekomen met onder meer Norris en de Red Bulls van Max Verstappen en Sergio Perez.

Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff was ook tevreden over de vrijdag op het circuit van Zandvoort. De Oostenrijker kon weer lachen en sprak zich uit bij Sky Sports: "De eerste vrije training ging iets beter dan de tweede, maar dit geeft zeker vertrouwen. Ik denk dat Lewis op de mediums competitiever was dan op de softs. Ik denk dat we het morgen allemaal gaan zien. Ik denk dat het meer nut heeft om ons te focussen op de race dan op de pole position. Je kan niet elk jaar winnen en die tik moet je gewoon accepteren.

Hoe kan het toch in hemelsnaam mogelijk zijn dat ze bij Mercedes (binnen de budgetcap) na het het bouwen en ontwerpen van een half newey auto dit seizoen, nog steeds de ene na de andere update blijven aanbrengen aan hun auto's? Ik ruik Wolffenstront aan al m'n knikkers!

Keurige 12de plek voor Russell, en Lewis zal morgen weten na VT3 wat zijn achterstand zal zijn, op zo'n kort baantje is de achterstand al behoorlijk lijkt mij zo.
