Voormalig Red Bull-talent Vips maakt IndyCar-debuut

Voormalig Red Bull Junior-coureur Jüri Vips gaat zijn comeback in de autosport maken. De Est zat sinds de Formule 2-seizoensfinale van 2022 zonder zitje, maar is nu opgepikt door het Indycar-team van Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. Vips raakte vorig jaar in opspraak na een veelbesproken moment tijdens een livestream.

Vips werd gezien als één van de grootste talenten van het Red Bull Junior Team. Hij fungeerde bij een aantal races als reserverijder van Red Bull Racing en mocht in Spanje zijn trainingsdebuut maken voor de Oostenrijkse renstal. Hij kwam daarna niet meer in actie voor Red Bull omdat hij in opspraak was geraakt door een uitspraak tijdens een livestream. Hij gebruikte het N-woord tijdens het gamen en werd vervolgens geschorst door Red Bull.

Vips werd uiteindelijk uit het Red Bull Junior Team gezet, maar mocht het Formule 2-seizoen wel afmaken voor het team van Hitech. Daarna zat hij zonder stoeltje aangezien de negatieve aandacht aan hem was blijven kleven. Na een aantal geruchten over een Indycar-zitje, is dit nu officieel bevestigd. Vips zal de laatste twee races voor Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing gaan rijden als vervanger van Jack Harvey. Hij debuteert in Portland.
